Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Just letting users in the Tipperary region a new hospital campaign is being launched in next few days to bring back A&E services to areas of the Midwest and other hospitals in Midwest check this link to follow their Twitter Account for more https://twitter.com/HospitalMidwest

    I think this is an extremely backward step. If successful, it would mean A&E services without the full range of equipment/skills necessary. It would be far better to campaign for local clinics that could deal with minor issues, without clogging up the A&E in UHL. Use the other hospitals as step down facilities to free beds in UCH for those who need them.

    Can you explain the basis for you saying that if we were successful it would mean A&E services without the full range of equipment/skills necessary.

    Is this just your opinion or is it based on evidence based research or maybe something else. I wait to be enlightened by you

    Reopening the A&E departments in Nenagh and Ennis is only part of the solution. there was and will still be overcrowding. Thurles, Cashel and Tipperary town are also required to reopen.

    The overcrowding problem all stems back to closure of these hospitals. Cashel County Hospital was purposely designed in the 1930s(?) to be the main hospital in Tipperary. It was downgraded from the 1950s onwards for political reasons and services moved to Clonmel District Hospital which is a former workhouse and completely unsuitable for emergency care. HSE actually breached a guarantee given to the high court for a number of months when they failed to replace a broken X-Ray machine. Rather insulting to the people of Cashel that the replacement X-ray machine was second hand and a lot older than the one it replaced apparently.

    Thurles District Hospital on Parnell Street was a former fever hospital built in the 1830s which offered both emergency and maternity services up until 1988. It reopened as a health centre offering care in the community (mental health, antenatal, dentistry, Tulsa, Cambs) and year on year the Mid Western Health Board and later the HSE MW cut these services one by one.

    Centralising would’ve of worked if it was done correctly back in the 1980s if a purposely built model 4 hospital was opened in either Thurles or Cashel that covered the entire county.
