Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

HAd a Vulcan fly over my grandmother's house in Barrow-in-Furness when I was a kid. Turned day into night the wingspan was ENORMOUS! If it's visiting, drop everything and go!

Just asked the question about a special flypast on the Gathering Facebook mpage and got a reply.
All will be revealed on Wednesday.
    Sounds interesting:)

It seems you were spot on. Heres the quote from the link above:

Enjoy a spectacular family day out in Dublin on Sunday, 15th of September 2013, where the River Liffey will be the main display area of a spectacular fly-past of heavy large aircraft.
Over a three hour period, in excess of 250,000 people, located along the coastline in Dun Laoghaire and Sandymount and along the quays of the River Liffey will enjoy a stunning low flying air fly-past. Modelled on the fly-past which took place during the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, a selection of large aircraft will fly at 1,200 feet over the main display area (East Link Bridge - Custom House), then climbing to 1,700 ft and upwards to return to the airport. More datails to be announced

    3 hours seems like a long time......assuming 5-10 minutes per aircraft with 2 passes each.......maybe 9-20 aircraft?
So down the Liffey, over East Link then back to the airport.......best spotting location? Runway approach? Bull Island? Ringsend?

It will be interesting to see what they have lined up.
May be we will see an A380 over Dublin as mentioned in earlier posts and may be the Vulcan ? as its display caledar only goes up to the 1st Sept ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 226 ✭✭Air Boss

Yes we have no Vulcan - anybody got €70,000 spare and maybe

  • Registered Users Posts: 425 ✭✭airbusa320

  • Registered Users Posts: 226 ✭✭Air Boss

So, FR 738 to be expected then. I wonder will EI send an A330? Any chance of seeing EI-DVM as well? I presume that a/c still has it's retro livery? It'll probably be the CASA from the Air Corps.

EI 320 and 330 IAC will be the usual G4+LJ45 PC9's Cessna's and AW139's and their restored Chipmunk.

Like everything old even the confirmed stuff may not even be able to start on the day so everything is open for change or cancellation.

The flypast has nothing to do with the GAA !
Its part of "The Gathering " and 30 aircraft are due to perform a flypast alon the Liffey on the 15th Sept

    http://www.flightfest.ie/

And the Vulcan HAS flown to Portrush. And is due to display at Newcastle Co Down on August 10th as part of Festival of flight which to me geographically is Ireland so the is a possibility you can find out on the Vulcan website "Vulcan to the sky

    I only saw the helicopter..

    And a video:

(if someone can put this on YouTube, feel free to do so.. link expires in 7 days).

Until I read it here I was unaware that this was related to this event. Having read the thread a few weeks ago I now only saw the chopper making some movements, loads of Gardai on both sides of the Liffey, but did not see the official Flight Fest committee making their presentation. Looking forward to the 15th of September! :)

Lets hope we can see ex IAC162 and a PC9 fly together

This limits some of the aircraft that may be available

No BBMF too busy that day - pity

Since this is the last year that the Vulcan will display before being grounded it would make sense to have a "farewell Tour and involve Dublin

I hear that VTTS Command a fee as enormous as the Aircraft
    I though we didn't have a pot to P**s in anyway !

  • Registered Users Posts: 425 ✭✭airbusa320

Any chance of a jet from across the pond, are we counting the aircraft as singles or formation pairs (air corps pc-9 x 4)

I think the PC-9s and the 3 AW139s will be the only formation flying

I believe that they have got an airframe extension to be able to fly for up to another 2 seasons if they have the funding.....was chatting to an ex RAF person 2 months ago. Very "he said.....she said" I know

As for the BBMF.....I doubt Dublin would feature highly on their schedule priority.

Have spoken to them but a great pity - it would be first choice but not cheap and likely not to happen
