Flight Fest (Vulcan fly past)

i heard from someone in aer lingus this morning [who is normally very much in the know about this type of thing,] who told me that on the 15th of september or the 17th of september [cant remember which but its the day of the all ireland finals in croke park] during the time between the 2 matches there is supposed to be a vulcan bomber and an airbus A380 schulded to do a fly past down the liffey.dont know if it will happen but as i say the person who told me is usually right about this...if he says it will snow then you can take it that it will snow:)

The Vulcan has a uk caa permit to fly so is only able to fly in the uk without a similar permit from the other countries whose airspace it will be in.

I would love for it to happen though

dont get me wrong.i agree.its 1 of those things that we wont know untill it happens,and it would be great to see it happen.just thought to mention it..[the guy who told me was able to tell me that the b-52 would do a flypast at bray a few years ago long before it became public knowledge and he is not on the bray organisation team]

Sounds good even a A380 at low level would be special. Didnt the b-52 crew at RIAT say they were to do a fly past at Bray, Sunderland and a Spanish airshow that weekend?

no too sure about the b-52 crew saying it as i never knew that,not saying they didnt,just i wasnt aware of it....but it would explain how he knew before hand,ha ha

I think I remember reading it on another forum at the time. And we only got the 1 flypast from the b52 at Bray just like Sunderland did that weekend

Emirates A380 flypast over the All-Ireland would be their sort of marketing ploy?

Vulcan? I would greatly doubt it.

Emirates fly past would be quite strange seeing that Ethiad is one of the GAA,S official sponsors. But still very welcome.

EY are getting their first A380 sometime this year.
I thought they only sponsered the hurling?

Either airline doing an A380 flypast seems pluasible.

All-Ireland hurling final is scheduled for September 8th - could it be that day seeing as EY sponsor the hurling championship?

In fact and aircraft on a UK permit can fly in Irish airspace. Ex military aircraft will need permission from the Irish authorities though.

Can't imagine one of the most British aircraft of all time, doing a flypast at an All Ireland Final. Don't get me wrong I'd be one of the first out to see it, seems a tad far fetched to me though. What would be nice would be some PC 9's escorting an EI A330 down the Liffey.

I also can't see a Vulcan doing a Dublin fly-past.

Its about as likely as a grounded Victor becoming "accidentally" airborne.

I've seen enough PC-9s and A330s. I can't really imagine a Vulcan flypast over Dublin tbh. Bring on the A380.

Isn't Etihad only getting their first A380 next year though?

Yes, I believe so. Not a chance of a Vuclan coming, their time is limited enough as it is.

Hey gang,
I e-mailed the group that has restored and fly the Vulcan Bomber and asked them about a potential fly-by this was their reply
"The plan so far is to display and land on Sat 10th Aug, and then depart Sun 11th Aug.
I can't give you times though as I don't have them."
not the dates mentioned but it sounds like it's on!!! The Bray Airshow is scheduled for July 31st, So I don't know what event this is for. Awesome! Thanks for the heads up "Television" This is a once in a lifetime opportunity

no problems ,just hought to mention it....it could have something to do with this whole "the gathering" tourism drive....probably not but you never know...and im not sure of any other "airshows" planned,so my guess is as good as any:D:)

That would be something to see alright, heading up again this year for the airshow . So far this year they have the red arrows the RAF typhoon, BBMF Dakota and a F86 Sabre due to display , the Vulcan would top it off

I live in Newcastle and this years line up is very exciting, if the Vulcan turns out to be true then this will be huge. The echo around the Mourne Mountains is something I want to hear.

Down District Council promised the largest collection of Jets seen in Northern Ireland for over a decade this year.

I have doubts about the BBMF, it has been booked twice before. The Lancaster in 2011 and the Dakota last year and both times problems arose with the aircraft and sadly they didn't make it. The Lancaster is another plane huge on my wishlist for Newcastle.

So www.vulcantothesky.org have confirmed a show in Dublin to you in an email? Seems to m that a flyover would be more likely,just from a logistical point of view.

On their website this is the current display schedule:
RAF Cosford - 9th June
Manston - 22nd June
RAF Waddington - 6th/7th July
Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) RAF Fairford 20th - 21st July
Rhyl - 31st Aug / or 1st September

Thats only the main airshows. They always confirm for the big ones long before the rest of the schedule go up.

Just out of interest, regarding the Newcastle show, would the headline acts, as it were, be on the final Saturday, i.e.10th August only? I'd seriously consider going up, and maybe do a bit of hillwalking too, but can't afford the time to go up for any longer than just the one weekend.

Last year the display was Saturday only.
With the RAF Typhoon, hawk and Tucano displaying as well as Miss demeanour hawker hunter, a Spitfire, EI-HUM as well as the coastguard helicopter. It was a good display that aslo included the 3 ship air corps pc-9s as well as the Aerostars. Th Belgian A109 was also on static display with the coastguard heli.

The festival is a week long thing with displays of memorabilia etc all week and the final saturday. This year is shaping up to be pretty good already. About 5 more displays yet to be revealed.

Am still wondering about trying to make RIAT at Fairford.......will be home alone that week so may be worth my while.

i was talking to another aerlingus pilot who has said he has seen / read a bit about it,that it WILL be advertised as the date gets nearer and also the b-17 "sally b" is also due to take part in it:D

I saw the B17 in Aldergrove, and later at Newtownards years ago, both when I was still pretty young... Aldergrove was 85 I think... Newtownards was early 90s. Would love to see it again now I am old enough to appreciate it.
