Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, can anyone tell me if a vet is legally obliged to give you A prescription? My dogs got prescribed vetmedin and vets are charging 150 euros compared to 60 from the uk?
Would it be really cheeky to do this?
    Anyone else do this?
    Thanks

Asking for the prescription might be a bit cheeky, I've no idea about legal obligation. Your problem however, would be fulfilling the prescription. There are pharmacies in the UK that do mail order prescription fulfilment and they operate entirely legitimately in the UK but An Post terms and conditions prohibit posting prescription drugs. I believe it's actually against the law in Ireland but that's a legal question to be addressed elsewhere.

You may find a provider in the UK that is unaware of the Irish regulations and is prepared to fulfil the prescription in good faith. That won't absolve you of your legal responsibilities though, and you risk having the items confiscated at minimum.

You might consider dropping up to a vet in Northern Ireland in person, Obviously you'd have to weigh up the fuel and the time against the savings on the prescription.

Do you mind if I ask has your dog seen a Cardiologist or just a vet?

Reason I ask in my dog was prescribed heart medication by my vet when he was 10 and diagnosed with a grade 2 heart murmur.. I requested a referral...

Cardiologist advised 2 supplements daily he lived until 14 - his heart never got any worse and never effected him in nay way he was super active 6km everyday even at 14....until he passed of an unrelated illness...

not saying its the same for your dog but when it comes to serious conditions id always get a referral for a specialist

Either way sorry I've no idea re: prescriptions from UK - id doubt it to be honest

    Do you have pet insurance?

I go to 2 different vets and both give prescriptions. I order from https://www.petdrugsonline.co.uk (I scan and upload the prescription) and use parcel wizard.. I think revenue have bigger fish to fry than Bailey's box of Thyforan every 6 months!

Ask your vet about a cheaper alternative to Vetmedin. I think Cardisure costs less.
