What artists have you seen live that are now sadly no longer with us???

For me the ones I know of are.
    David Bowie
    Prince
    Ronnie Drew
Whitney Houstan (which I was pressured into going to by my sister and it turned out to be her worse concert and as far as i know her last)

I Have been to see a lot of bands some of which I wasn't too keen on but went a long either for the adventure or because of pressure I am not sure if any members of metallica have died i seen them a few years ago as well as slipknot and several other heavy metal bands, Funnily enough I was never to big into heavy metal music but my brother and cousins and a few friends where big into it back then so that is the reason I dont know too much about any of those bands/artists.

Well would anyone like to share???

Just nerded out in excel, average age of any famous musician that died since 1960 and Prince is 52.3yrs and struggling a bit getting excel to average text, but it looks like a Car accident, Heart attack and Cancer (stomach and lungs) were the most common reasons, natural causes is well down the list.

Prince made it to 57 so he done alright compared to his peers.

I would have expected drug/alcohol-related deaths to factor in fairly highly there?

Yea they do, when you look at the ages of the heart attacks it's guys in there 20's and 30's not old men so I'd say brought on by alcohol or drugs.

Only 2 died of the electrocution, singer in stone the crows got electrocuted by her microphone and bass player with the shadows by his guitar.

Winehouse in her early days (when I caught her) was pretty excellent.

Hicks possibly the greatest comic of all. And with bigger cojones than any rock star I've seen.

Sinatra and Sammy Davis are good ones. Saw Big Country in the Phoenix Park 1983 with U2, Simple Minds, Eurthymics and some others. Great live band.

Saw the Pogues too many times to mention, but favourite was in Kennedys, Puckane, Co Tipperary, 1985 or 1986, with Elvis Costello. A pretty riotous gig.

Also: The Clash in the SFX 1984, biggest regret I never caught them in the Top Hat Dun Laoghaire and Joe Strummer and his mescaleroes far too many times to mention.

All I'm doing is showing my age so I'll quit while I'm so far behind.

Spent a lot of time hanging around Whelans in the 90s and always had a huge amount of time for Mic Christopher. So much talent and so much left to give.

    Two I'd forgotten:

    Fela Kuti (Glastonbury '89)
The Bhundu Boys (everywhere in the late 80s/early 90s) Biggie Tembo hung himself in a psychiatric hospital and three of the guys died of AIDS. Not the luckiest lot, but what a live band.

Saw The Stooges play a few years ago. Iggy introduced the heavily overweight Scott Asheton as, "the heavyweight champion of the world." He was dead not long afterwards, from a massive heart attack. Hard to believe Ron Asheton is also gone. Awful messy gig, saw some crazy stuff in the crowd.

First big proper gig I was ever at was Ozzfest back in 2002. Quite a lot of death and dishonour since that - Dave Williams from Drowning Pool was dead about three months later. Slayer made quite an impression on my young mind that day, I'd never seen the likes. It's hard to believe that Jeff Hanneman is no longer with us. Lostprophets were also on the bill - Ian Watkins is still unfortunately alive.

Surprised Kurt Cobain or Nirvana hasn't been mentioned yet, they played big enough gigs. Saw them as support for Sonic Youth in the Top Hat and later at The Point, with, as far as I can recall, The Breeders and Teenage Fanclub.

That fellow from Slayer, Bill Hicks at The Tivoli.. (there was music!), a few members of The Beastie Boys. (Tivoli)

I'm glad I don't have more to share, as someone else has said, a somewhat unsettling thread!

Motorhead 1984 (Brian Robertson and two Americans took over the roles of Philthy Phil and Fast Eddie Clarke) - Deceased: Lemmy (Ex-Hawkwind)

Robert Calvert & the Starfighters (Ex-Hawkwind) - Son of Acid festival, Leeds 1987. Deceased: Robert Calvert (1988).

Hawkwind numerous times in the early to mid eighties. Deceased: Huw LIoyd-Langton.

Iggy Pop & the Stooges - Electric Picnic 2007 Deceased: the two Asheton brothers.

    Whitesnake 1984 Deceased: Jon Lord

Pink Floyd 1988 Manchester. Deceased: Richard Wright (2008) Syd Barrett although he left 20 years before the gig. Deceased (2006)

Ronnie James Dio - Dio 1984 Holy Diver tour Glasgow. Deceased; Dio

Gong !989, 2009 both in Edinburgh. Deceased: Daevid Allen.

Edit: Fcuk forgot about Gary Moore who I seen numerous times in Glasgow in the eighties and at Castle Donnington Monsters of Rock 1984. I still consider his Dirty Fingers album the ultimate melodic metal classic, a totally faultless record.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)
