    Hello,

As the title says, where is the best place for books in Dublin. I want to get a gift for someone that is interested in '60'/70's British and European cars. I prefer to buy locally so I can have a flick through it first, and for easy exchange if required.

    Thanks!

If they are merc fans this could be good. http://www.w123book.com/

It says delivery only but there is someone in Dublin with copies if you email them.

Chapters on Parnell St normally has a good selection of auto books, new and used.

    Cui bono?

if your not under pressure to get it before next week or something a search for upcoming cars shows may help. usually stalls selling books

Hi, thanks for the replies, just getting to log in now.

hoodie6029 - I tried Chapters yesterday, they just had a single shelf of car books. Same with Easons. The W123 book looks fantastic, exactly the quality I wanted, but I'm not sure the subject matter is correct.

zetecescort - thanks, I'm not sure I will have time for that but will look, may be lucky.

A great Irish website I've often used to source books is - http://www.kennys.ie

Free postage is included in the price of each book.

Random search under 'classic car' -

Don McClenahan has a terrific range of books, while he doesn't have a shop, I have called to the house a couple times to pick up books that I knew he had.
He does most of the bigger shows and a phone call would tell you where he is next and if you knew what you wanted and he had it maybe he would be happy for you to call out..( he's in north Wicklow).
If you want to go this route I can PM you his phone number...

Another vote for Don here, He has a great selection of books and as said above not only does shows but I've also collected stuff from His house.

Wondering if you could give me Don McClenahan tele number please? Met him a while back at Mondello but lost his business card - he has a book on Mercedes G Wagons that I want to buy off him?

    Id appreciate your help please?

    Tks

I just clicked on this thread thinking it was a new one, and to my surprise I'm the OP! In the end, I think I got a book from Kennys for my friend.

However, I was so impressed by the W123 book (site seems to be gone now) and the subtitle "The finest saloon of the 20th century?" that I ended up buying the car in Jan 2020! And, a signed copy of the book was included in the sale :)

@Blizzard AE I can't answer your question, but if you are researching before you buy, can I recommend this book, I got the 123 version from the same publisher and found it useful.

Mods, I know this is an old thread, but it's very quiet around here!

If its the book by Brian Long, Don has it listed on Adverts under the Vintage and Classic car section. Make an offer on it to contact him

No that’s not the book - he told me he had a book specifically on Mercedes G Wagons and that’s what I’m after - he hasn’t got it up for sale on adverts!
