Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd love the opportunity to stay in a lighthouse overnight. Anyone got any contacts in the coastguard?

Sorry for posting in this thread again but I didn't want to start a new one and maybe some of you who went this year have still subscribed to updates.

There were discussions about how things weren't ideal this year. So I thought I just throw this in:
I happened to bump into Terri (one of the long term volunteers in the castle who joins in every year) at a conference over the last two days and of course we got to chat about how things have changed in the castle.
She was away for a month before we went and hence wasn't involved nor up-to-date about developments with the castle.
She confirmed that everyone volunteering there had to get used to the new rules themselves and having the museum opening event on the same weekend definitely turned out to be semi-ideal.
I have her contact details so once organising next years weekend away comes up and people want to go again I'm happy to help getting it off the ground again.

    2015 ?

    2015 ?
Nothing listed on the venue website http://www.explorersmuseum.org
Looks like there is a film festival on the corresponding weekend for this year.

I sent Tiriel and xia a PM to see if there are any plans to repeat the event this year.

I would love to revisit but have way too much on my plate at the moment to organise, including the Photobook so if xia's offer stands then that would be brilliant.

AFAIK xia is away in the US with the Special Olympics team at the moment.
However after last years fiasco I can't believe there is a suggestion for a return visit to Charleville!

For those who had been on the annual visit previously, a lot had changed in terms of the kind of access we had and also new volunteers etc.

I still loved the visit and was glad to have the opportunity to but it was very restricted in terms of access upstairs etc.

We were more used to freedom to roam, but with a change in insurance requirements the volunteers were not allowed to permit people unescorted upstairs. There was no access to the dungeon space either but again, there was plenty to shoot and explore in my opinion.

The meeting time was 11am. Those who arrived later were very restricted because the volunteers weren't bringing people upstairs later in the day. There was an event in the castle on the same day and instead of it being a positive it really hindered our access etc.

Still. BBQ and company was great as always!

Sounds like bad timing so? I wonder if the staff are still under the same instructions i.e. they HAVE to accompany people in different parts of the castle.

The social aspect was fun I'm sure, although meeting weirdos from the internet can be quite risky... :p

I'd love to go again - I missed last year. But, unfortunately, I don't have time to help with organising it.

So unless some kind soul(s) will take up the baton (hint Xia:)) it doesn't look very positive.

I'd love to try some studio type shots in some of the rooms on the ground floor - if only we had some models or volunteers for same???

Possibly someone has a number for Terri and give her a buzz and gauge the situation

Problem is, usually that's the start of a slippery slope of hey, you're the organiser, everything is now on your shoulders!

    Yep :)

As PullandBang mentioned that Xia is away at the moment, if anyone (yourself included!) would like to offer to be the organiser of the trip - then I can pass you her email to get in touch.

It will mean taking responsibility for the group, collecting payments, liaising between the castle owners, volunteers and the boards group.

I think that someone would have to have visited the castle before to be able to take it on.

Coincidentally I just finished work this evening for 6 weeks :)

Ill go halves with someone if their willing, in the arrangements as it would only be my second trip if we can get it off the ground

Sorry for the delay. Apart from being in LA I haven't been on here in ages...

I just checked all my business cards and it looks like I managed to misplace Terrie's :o so I can't keep my offer of giving her details to whoever wants to organise another Charleville Castle trip.

And as I've a lot on at the moment I can't offer to help with the organisation either.

    I'm sorry!
