Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Setting up Business name question

    Hi everyone just a quick question when registering the business name through Core.ie and setting up with a Partner

    We will be selling items on eBay (main specialized but will sell other items if the event presents itself) but we are confused about what kind of Nature of Business should be put down.

    We chose 52.12:ECOMMERCE OVER A RANGE OF PLATFORMS INCLUDING EBAY.IE AND AMAZON.CO.UK

    Should we have chosen 52. 48 - Other retail sale in specialized stores or 52.12 (non specialized stores)
    Also it's ok to use "Eire" in the company name right?

    you can use whatever you want in the business name

    52: is for retail, theres nothing there that says ecommerce..

    I have a few online stores and always chose Computer related activities > Other > Ecommerce

    You are contradicting yourself. If you pick a business name you will be Joe Smith & Joe Blogs trading as Business Name. That is not a company or a partnership, (unless you draw up a partnership agreement, which is an entirely different ballgame.)

    As for Eire, that depends. If your Company name, address, etc. is in the Irish language it is correct to use ‘Eire’. If the company name etc. is in English, the name of the country should be written as ‘Ireland’ and ‘Eire’ would be incorrect. Ireland is how it is named in all treaties, legal documents, etc. (Some ultra-Republicans refuse to use ‘Ireland’ because they see it as partitionistand still insist on ‘Eire’, which is as correct as die-hard Unionists calling the Republic ‘the Free State’ or 'Eire' to be derogatory.

    Finally, you cannot 'use whatever you want in the business name' - certain words, terms, etc are not allowed, some require specific permission and a name must be approved by the CRO.

    We intent on selling items on ebay and using a business name to do so.
    We are getting a partnership agreement in the comming weeks.

    So a name like MobileEire would be out of the question? Maybe We will only be selling online and also a domain name will be needed.

    So, you want to set up an online business - therefore it will have some international customers. Why pick a name that is totally unrecognizable and unpronounceable to everyone? Why put obstacles in your own path? Apart from being wrong, what does Eire add? Why not pick something better? MobileEire is - mobilee ire? mobilee re?

    A partnership is a far more complex and difficult way to go - also more onerous legally. Who is drawing it up and why are you not going down the limited company route? You need professional help.

    Yeah you are correct. I do need help from a professional as it's more complicated than I first thought.
