mysterious building/mound on killiney hill

hey!

I was wondering if any of you could tell me what the purpose of the objects located here are:

It's a grassy area on top of a mound next to the building here:

You can access the mound by ascending a short path from the main path down towards the statue of Daedalus.

The top of the mound is completely flat and has apparently trimmed grass by contrast to the area around it. These things are on top of the mound. I assume they are air vents of some sort.

What's weird is that the mound obviously contains something serviceable but there doesn't appear to be any obvious way in or out - plus, why would you build a grassy mound over it?

The building next to it, I was there last night but I couldn't make out what it was for. I do vaguely recall that it had something to with the county council from a previous visit. Any ideas?

Thats a reservoir, the building to the front is a pump house I believe. There is a few access manholes close to those vents

I couldn't find any other written information about it other than a brief mention in this (PDF) on page 19.

I mostly know reservoirs as big open bodies of water like in Sandyford, does this reservoir only hold the cubic volume of the mound? (or does it possibly extend deep underground?) From what I've been reading a lot of Killiney got dug up to build Dun Laoghaire harbour, I wonder if that's what happened (as it did with the Moran Park reservoir)

the main reservoir is actually across off church road. its an enclosed one.

intriguing! I've set the wheels in motion to get an article from Irish Architecture written about the pumping station out of the UCD library.
