Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Please do not use tags to get around the rules. We can see who tags what. Also it's just childish.
Also please don't spam the tags. If its funny (Mr. Alan shuffle) fine, but like cop on please lads.

chdpoker banned for adding the tag scouse twats to the Liverpool thread and manc twats to the United thread
Zabbo and Pornapster warned for theirs tagging of the Kewell thread and the Liverpool threads respectively.

How come some tagging = ban and some tagging = warning?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

For the same reason that calling somebody fat frank doesn't get you instantly banned, while calling someebody a twat does.
Also since it was first time, I was being nice, but chdpoker had been doing it consistantly everywhere in lots of threads, so tough cookie.

Or just get the tagging stuff disabled; it's really annoying.

Look just above the quick reply box....there's the tags, and you can edit them on the right hand side!

whats the point of them though?

    what purpose do they serve

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

For searching for threads and stuff.

They are used by search engines afaik. They become key words for the thread they are added to making it easier for the search engine to return good results, in theory.

I didn't know mods could see who added what tags, makes sense that they should alright. Good thing I didn't abuse it. Phew.

I am not sure if you can get one forum disabled,we will have to get onto Cult about that.

As an alternative it might be an idea to use the tagging thing to use as a troll detection type system.

Leave them enabled and stick it in the charter that people should use them properly or not at all .

Chances are if people are the sort to muck around with tags they are not likely to be of much benefit to the forum. Seems to me that anyone likely to mess around with the tagging thing would be the type of person who would would have a tendency to hang around under bridges.

If people do muck around with them, then issue infractions/bans as necessary. Be damm harsh with the bans too.

By having the charter updated the mods are covered for the inevitable - no I didnt see this, I was only messing type excuses.

Could well be a useful device as an early warning system as regards spotting newer troll type posters to the forum in the future.
