Please. It was a dig at Kleyn's legitimacy as an Irish player. Disgraceful comment from an accredited journalist.

    He deleted it very quickly...

The poster called him a 'Leinster fan boy' three posts in a row all the while pearl clutches about a sarcastic dig on a tweet he later removed.

Rightly or wrongly, many question his legitimacy as an Irish player and by putting in a performance as poor as that he leaves him open to minor digs like that, even if they are in poor taste.

Ok i'm over the game. Samoa next.

    Who cares.

    One match at a time.

@Foxtrol What you call "in poor taste", I call disgraceful.

Why did he delete it, if not? He knew it was way over the line.

    * For the record, I'm a Leinster fan and believe Toner AND Dillane should have been there ahead of Kleyn. But Kleyn's an Irish World Cup player now and such snide digs disgust me.

On first viewing, ya, genuinely thought he was really good and involved today. I'd like to watch it again, but he'd have been a candidate for me.

    Also scored a try

Schmidt says Sexton is fine. The was to play him for 40 minutes today and for 60 minutes against Samoa.

He wasn't as positive on Carbery though. He jarred his heel in the captains run and hasn't been able to recover.

Think he got pinged three times though (admittedly the lineout one was a bit soft). He has been getting on the wrong side of refs this tournament.

Klyen was objectively poor and that performance was as far from a 'tight head lock enforcer' as I can think.

Pearl clutching at a sarcastic post from a journalist doesn't change that.

As I have said, he was poor. Also said on here when squad was announced would have gone with Toner.

Residency rules are what they are. An Irish times journalist should be well above attacking one player in relation to residency rules just because he is upset one of his province’s players wasn’t selected, pathetic stuff.

If you had to choose between POM or Ringrose to pick up a rugby ball, POM wins every time.

Showed great acrobaticism to scoop the ball up off the ground to an Irish player from his turnover, for which I thought he was harshly penalised. Would have to see it again though, looked like the ball squirted out of the ruck before he made his move.

He is a Leinster fan boy and incapable of separating that from his journalism. It’s idiotic to question his legitimacy. If you’re against residency qualified players fine but singling out individual players looks petty and small.

Fair enough, but equally is there much point in bringing out a player of the calibre of Tommy O'Donnell? The permutations are starting to change a bit as we reach the end of the group games. Squad rotation will be going out the window somewhat
You never know until the point when you know you should have. ;)

I'm just being a bit of a nervous ninny, but injuries have killed our run before, and we tried the makeshift approach which was not pretty. We don't need another lock yet, but we will need another back row if Nordi is out.

Whether it's a symptom of the heat & humidity, or a general lack of sharpness, I'm not sure - but my biggest impression from the last 2 games is that we've been very bad at supporting the ball carrier, and as a result have put outselves under pressure at the breakdown.

Clean-outs are coming that split-second slower than they should, so our ball is constantly getting slowed, and allowing defences more time to be set up against the next phase.
Even relying on one-out runners we would still be making gains on every carry if the defence isn't set properly. Slow ball means the one-out carrier is likely to get stuffed and the game plan struggles.

Ireland are -54 on the handicap. And they'll cover that. Ridiculous all the eejits who think the sky is falling.

I'm actually glad they lost as now I can make some dough before lunchtime.

Just the nineteen points short then

If Jordi isn't able to carry on over there, who would be the next in line would it be TOD?

He's the next back row in line. Doesn't help us cover 8 though. Jack O'Donoghue has been played by Schmidt too but that was long before this camp.

If Joe has to call someone up for Nordi, could an interesting peak into how he views the squad. Does he call Toner up to shore up the lineout and set piece, which would suggest he made a mistake initially.

Does he call up TOD as 7 cover? Does he want a similar style player as replacement for Conan and call up Deegan ?

Personally, I'd bring in Dev, and roll with Henderson on the bench.

How many does he get really? You cannot say you are guaranteed he will get a turnover a game like other back rowers.

he was largely missing in action compared to Ruddock and Stander when he come on in my opinion

Actually the stats suggest otherwise. Some interesting stats from August, which work out as 1.1 turnovers per game. If you convert that to Turnovers per 80 mins, he comes 4th on that list, ahead of Hooper, Cane and Ardie Savea.

With there only being one group match left it means the needs of the squad will change and there is every chance that the replacement wouldn’t be a back row.

I think it's Toner up next.

Although, don't be surprised to see a call made on Henshaw this week to bring in Deegan or O'Donoghue, too.

Rob Kearney has scored 3 games in a row, that follows a 27 game dry spell, which was right after his last 3 in a row spell!

And your use of disgraceful, I call hyperbolic pearl clutching.

He deleted it because in the heat of the moment people post things they at the time think is funny and then regret when they're called out and they reflect on it.

The post was gone by the time I clicked on it and expected him to have abused his wife for the way some were reacting, especially from a poster who was repeatedly naming calling about the journalist in their own posts.

Kleyn was supposed to be brought as a 'hardman' and he was anything but that today. I'd expect plenty of snide posts if Toner was brought and performed as poorly in the lineout.

"Kleyn was supposed to be brought as a 'hardman'"

    Source? ;-)

I thought he was brought as a "dirt-tracker" TH lock?

    We'll agree to disagree, I hope :-)

If you want a warm body to fill out the backrow or 20 jersey against Samoa, it's TOD I suppose.

If you want someone who is a different option against SA/NZ, then it's Toner.

It will be interesting to see if anyone is pulled from provincial duty this weekend.

It's a pity that this WC is a year too early for Deegan, he'd be a quality option, in a similar vein to Conan. Team with Toner will be stronger imo, and likely to shore up put set piece ball, which is key to our chances of success.

I called him a Leinster fan rather than a journalist which is accurate. It’s pathetic for an Irish Times journalist to be so upset at the exclusion of a Leinster player that he resorts to snide remarks about the player selected ahead of him. If he wants to be against all residency players, that’s fine but singling out individuals is petty and small.

Also as I have posted here before, he frequently appears unaware of what’s happening at other provinces, unaware of how the league they play in operates. It’s poor ‘journalism’ at best.

    We have:

    6: POM/Ruddock/Henderson/Beirne
    7: JVDF/POM (Ruddock played 7 v SA before in a victory)
8: Stander (Ruddock and Beirne have played there before but Vs NZ or SA in a WC 1/4 Final?)

8 is a problem now. Jordi's loss was huge here.

    Deegan
    O'Donoghue
    Copeland(injured?)
Doris(has he even been in a training camp?)

    * I'm probably forgetting someone.

I don't know too many 'dirt-tracker' specialist TH locks that are known for their softness... ;)

Kleyn was extremely poor today and if Jordi is out at this point Schmidt should hold up his hands that he was wrong and bring in Toner. Kleyn has been anonymous in the areas that were supposed to be his strengths, all the evidence points to him being blown off the park if he has to play in a QF.

He ran a brilliant line to get onto Sexton's inside pass. But my God has he slowed down completely. Really should have passed to Ringrose.

If Kleyn had performed well or even ok you'd have a point, but he was singled out as an individual here because of his terrible performance and the residency piece was thrown in on top.

It is like pot vs kettle here. You clearly have an ongoing issue with this journalist and are taking this as an opportunity to take snide shots at him.

You're continually missing the point. A journalist should have higher standards than making snide remarks on Twitter.
