Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

They had a bid rejected for Wan Bissaka as well so they are looking to bring in defenders

Thought he was a full back?

Bit of a shake up in the academy as well. Didn't realise all the players that came through West Brom academy until I saw West Brom fans mentioning some. They seem quite gutted about it.

    This is badly needed

One of the greatest myths in English football is about the quality of the Aston Villa youth system. Very few quality players ever produced from it over all the years, when it should have the pick of the best talent from the midlands area (an area with a huge population).

You only have to look at how many players could actually make into the side an make any impact during our 3 seasons in the second division.

I cant think of many players West Brom brought through that have been top players. I've said it a dozen times here, they need first team games if they are ever going to make it and in the PL years we've allowed Hendrie, Barry, JJ, Gabby, Davis, Albrighton, Clark, Vassell, Baker and Grealish time, maybe a few more. Clark, Baker, Barry, Albrighton were all forced on us, it wasnt thinking of development.

We were just lucky tactics Tim was in charge as Grealish was coming of age.

A lot of young players simply haven't been good enough for first team football at any of those given times. Just by first team football I can't think of many who were young, not given senior football or very little and gone on to be very good elsewhere with playing first team football. The like of Daniel Johnson would be one in the Championship, but that was made even worse because it was for only £50,000.

That is a damning indictment of the academy in any case.

We kept too many of the players in the U23 team for too long instead of sending them out on loan earlier. The fact that O'Hare is 21 and only going on his first loan this year is criminal. Similar things happened with a good few of those players. We were doing well in the youth league but that was because the other teams had their better players on loan playing proper competitive football.

The 23s system is brutal, not competitive at all.

Pursuing Kalvin Phillips according to John Percy. Would be a really good signing imo, in a position the team is badly short of both players and quality. A young defensive midfielder would be a welcome change.

Would be a great signing and for a position badly needed also.

Happy with the fixtures for next season, first couple of months are decent, a lot of very winnable games in there.

At the moment we are probably the weakest team in the League. Finished 5th in the Championship and 20 points of the top. Spurs will be a rude awakening.

If Smith had a full season, 2 fit centre backs and Grealish not being out for months would have been a very different picture. Even 2 of the 3 would have probably got us an automatic promotion.

Spurs could be in turmoil themselves come August.

I'd take Philips, I'm sure Grealish would be happy to have him too.

Some possible big news. The same journalist who broke the Benteke signing.

First Brazilian to play for Villa?

At the moment we are the weakest team no doubt, we've no back line signed except for Elmo , new untried French RB and Chester, no DM unless you count Hourihane, El Ghazi and Green are our wingers, Kodjia Davis and Hogan our strikers, and we're also unsure of our keeper. Only players we're sure of is Grealish and McGinn. Oh forgot Jota

But there's a lot if hope that'll improve

I think there's a lot of positives, there's definitely a feelgood factor around the club and momentum from promotion whereas teams like Brighton may struggle again next year also can Sheff Utd make the step up with less funds. than ourselves.

We have a long term plan, Smith seems to know what he's doing and the owners with their cash also have their heads screwed on but yes we need to do a Wolves rather than a Fulham or Cardiff.

Not gonna pretend to know anything about the lad, and his goalscoring record doesn't set the world on fire, but he is 25 million and Brazilian, how can he be anything but a success?

Im hoping the fact that he is not a brazilian international player isnt going to hinder his work permit, maybe the 3 champions league games will stand to him

I don't think you're gonna see a 25 million signing struggle to get a work permit.

I imagine there are much lower profile South Americans playing in the league.

Brazilians tend to be absolutely class or absolutely brutal.

Hopefully this lad is up to scratch.
