St Saviours Orphanage Dominick Street, Dublin 1
I work for the charity that purchased the building in 20 lower Dominick Street that used to be St Saviours Boys Home. We are looking for anybody who is interested in documenting the history of the home. We have contact details of a previous caretaker (who has a lot of stories to tell), some contact with previous occupants, some photos and access to the building. For example the metal box where "the penny for the orphan" went to is still there.
Whether good or bad our building was important in a lot of young boys’ lives while growing up in North Dublin. We would like to document this important bit of Irish Social History before it’s lost.
If you know anyone or would interested in volunteering in this important task please contact us at: Youth Work Ireland, 20 Lower Dominick Street, Dublin 1 Tel: 01-8584500

    Hi there!
Are you still looking for stories from st Saviours orphanage? My dad attended there in the 40’s to mid 50’s. He has some amazing stories that need to be documented. He’s now mid 80’s but is as sharp as they come. Would love to hear from anyone who attended around the same time.
