Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's hard to get the detail on such a small print, but i think it looks ok and once you clean it up a little, glue it and paint it should be fine.

The below were just a test print for the sizes, how do they look Optimus?

Also, in keeping with the open source nature of the model and 3D printing in general here's the modified file on Thingiverse(I've set it as a remix of the original)
I'll update it once Optimus confirms the chair fits, is to small or too big.

Looks great Steve! , do you want to send me those test ones so I can see if they are scale in it before you print them ? Or just fire away I don’t mind. They look good.

Also just on the thingverse link , these go in the Hold of the falcon not the cockpit.

I'll fix it up a little and do the proper print. If they dont fit I can do it again as it's a tiny amount of plastic that's needed. I actually fixed up a few bits for that deagostini model yesterday that people had posted as most were just not printable(bad models with errors etc). So with the other prints next to the chair and console I think its right(I printed some barrels and misc bits that go in the hold with the console thing).

I'll use the same stuff I used for Doges job, an ABS/Nylon mix that's pretty strong. I'll update the thingiverse file to reflect its for the hold, cheers for that.

Is it still called a Navigator chair?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,390 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Cool , that’s great thanks a lot Steve ! It’s actually referred to as the Navigation Chair , it goes beside the navigation console in the hold. It’s the one han is sitting on in the A new hope when he is talking to Obi Wan while luke is using the ball thing for lightsaber training.

There are some other bits I’d like to get printed down the road too for it but so far I can’t find the files for download for free 😉

I was looking to get some barrels /crates for t down the road as well.

Well you can have the barrels and crates I was using to test the scale.

    This is the chair, yes?

Cheers , yeh that’s the one. That console now isn’t the other thing you printed. The one you printed is from the opposite end of the falcon and wasn’t really shown on screen.

Just wanted to say that my package came today Steve, and thanks a million, especially for the extras.

It was really well packed and everything came in one piece, that ABS / Nylon Hybrid is pretty damn tough, I couldn't break the plastic labelled "break me!"

Thanks a million for your service, you're a great asset to the forum.

Hopefully the parts work out for you. That extra pearly blue material I included is my own plastic and colour mix.

3D printed Simon the Sorcerer lithophane. This one took a bit of work, but I'm happy with it. It's a gift for a big Simon fan.

This week I finished the Dual analog handbrakes and dual shifter mod for my Sim Racing Rig thanks to the 3d printed parts sent by Steve. The idea is to switch between sided for Left Hand Drive and Right Hand Drive Cars to make it more immersive in VR.

    Sliding potentiometer installed:
    UrEt27T.jpg

    All the mechanical bits installed:
    3hSdD5v.jpg

Here's a video of me demonstrating the switch boxes to switch between each side:

I haven't been so lucky with the Game Frame yet, those wiring diagrams were for a different type of LED matrix and I ended up smoking out the Teensy LC microcontroller! Im going to have to ask for help on the game frame forums.

    Thanks Steve.

Glad some of it working out for ya :)

I'm moving most of my 3D printing stuff over to Gadunky.com at the moment, so if you need stuff done you can contact me via that as well as here.
I added my own take on 3D printed lithophanes(Blaze style) to the site recently and its taken off quite a bit, so i'll sort out other services through it as well rather than the old site you might have seen. Massive backlog at the moment due to one of my lithophanes ending up on the front page of imgur.com a week or two ago, so a lot of orders from that. Should be cleared up in a week if you need more done.

    Few examples here:

I'm just about keeping up with the orders as it is, no more viral hits for a while please :)
Offering the 3D files as a download is definitely the way to go and most of my orders come in that way. It doesn't matter if i sell 5 or 50,000 a day of the 3D files, its all automatic on the site and no extra work is involved. But the prints take a long time to finish, so I've got 6 or 7 printers running 24/7 this week.

    Cheers,
I was doing them more or less the same as other people do, but then i decided to try a very different way and got good results.
Some people want me to colour them, but they're completely missing the point. It's a colourless lithophane. I use cool and warm white light and different types of white plastic to trick/fake/shade them.

This is my most recent one, hasn't gone online yet.

Same issue I had with Super Metroid and that magic disk copier.

Initially I thought it was, but then I remembered years back when I played through Super Metroid first, I had the cart in a disk copier and it wiped the save every time.

Seems Action Replays/Game Genies can too!

Printed an on/off/volume knob for the Vectrex today. the original is in the centre, the one on the right came out the smoothest.

Been a while since a request was made, and this isn't even A&R related... well not in it's entirety.

I would like to have a reset button for my Vectrex printed up,

    Vectrex Reset Button

as well as a set (4) of leg extensions for my newly acquired 3DR Solo drone.

    3DR Leg Extensions

I should stick up some more sample pics to liven up the thread maybe.

I'd say the reset button would be best done in resin(its a simple shape but I'm guessing you want it as perfect as possible). I could do the legs on a standard 3D printer, perhaps in PETG or ASA materials for strength.
Either way, no problem to do and wont be pricey(couple euro worth of material and postage on top).

For the resin I'd probably do a mix of 20% tough resin(Siraya Blu), 5% flex resin(Siraya tenacious) and the rest would be standard ABS like resin.

What colour do you want the button and legs?
Do you want a few sets of legs? As someone who also fly's drones, these leg extensions will break after a while, or after a 1 rough landing :)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,630 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

    Green/Black for the legs perhaps.
I must go hunting for replacement rotors as well, not a 3D printable resource, at least not yet!
Would you mind running me up a stand for the SMB Game and Watch as well?
And just PM me the bill including shipping and I will fix you up.
I'd say the drone community would appreciate a person who can build replacement parts, hopefully I won't come knocking too often repair jobs!
It's a 3DR Solo drone, I have yet to fly the thing... kinda nervous!

A few sample prints. Not really retro related apart from the Metal Slug tank.
Nine tails was printed in clear resin and then hand painted with alcohol inks, the rest are from the printer with supports removed.

I'll check if i have green in the required material, but i definitely have black. Sure I can include the Game and Watch stand.

As for the drone, take it slow at first and get the hang of it. Don't be like me and go mental on your first flight. I got DJI's first Phantom drone years ago and didn't read the manual or do much research. I learned my lesson pretty quickly that day :0/

    Black is absolutely fine.
I'm hoping to take it on its first flight tomorrow, as soon as I have it all connected, app and all.
And keep it in open areas too, no chances being taken here!

Obscure thing, but I'd definitely like to get a set of 4 cps1.5 screw caps, in grey to match the cover.

These are the little bits of plastic that sit in the screw holes.

Not a breeze where to get the designs though!

I'd say its only a very basic design that's needed. If you ever feel like it I'm sure you could design it in tinkercad(very basic user friendly 3d design web app).
    https://www.tinkercad.com/

I mainly use fusion360 and some other more advanced tools, but still load up tinkercad if it's just something super quick and basic I need.

I designed this X Axis Pulley Idler in tinkercad a few years back. Took about 10 mins using drag and drop basic shapes and the design/3d print is still running on one of my laser cutters.
