Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ta'd at stubbing my toe :'(

    Mod:

    Hi gang,

Please note it would not be a wise course of action for us to start commenting on others TAs as TA.

It discourages contribution and makes a very enjoyable thread adversarial.

As I have said before in a mod note on this thread, each person's TA is their own. I would hate to see posters discussing others for posting in this thread: intentionally or otherwise. It will kill the thread in the long run.

Any queries on this please PM me.

Mod warning also repeated in post #3352

My house is right beside St Anne's Park in Clontarf. It's busy in there today. Cars pulled up outside and entire families heading in with hurls, balls, bikes etc.

I told a couple with 2 small kids (probably 3&4 yrs of age) to back away from me in the queue the other night... The mother looked at me as if I was messing... Eh no I'm serious back away!*

What level of stupid do you need to be to think bringing kids is a good idea... Both parents there so not as if child minding was an issue.

Plus at 7 at night it's bed the kids should be going not a supermarket, ffs.

*the 2 metres is measured out, but the queue was so long it was meandering through the carpark so everyone else was making a good stab at guessing the distance .

I would have done the same. OH made a rare trip to the shop over the weekend. I stayed outside since there was no point both of us going in. It took him forever to return and he said it was because there were idiots inside congregating in the aisles and making up their minds about different products. He was holding back each time for a clearing so he could take the product he needed. Why dont people decide what they need before and do a list. This is not a time for browsing!

I've resigned myself that a shop will take between 2-3 hrs... That's fine I can deal with that..... My patience for idiots is getting less and less.... Its a month now.. Plenty of time to cop yourself on.

Speaking of that, it trivially annoys me when I think I'm having a moment of connection with my cat and suddenly he furiously dives down into cleaning his balls.

I find some people do but they are just a tad slower at finding things and they are picky regarding the piece of meat, fish, bread they pick and won’t just throw anything in the trolley.

We are far from spoiled for choice in our local supermarket. You would be lucky to get 80% of what is on your list never mind the luxury of picking and choosing. And they are still congregating when the guidelines specify one person shopping.

People posting in Missing Persons threads with the words SAFE and WELL unless the person has been located.

Just share the fcuking thing and move on.

When I scan through a missing person thread and see "hope they safe and well" or "praying they're found safe and well" my little brain wholesomely celebrates for a split second and I don't even know the person.

I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for people who actually have a connection to the one who is missing.

    /Rant.

Going back to my student days, but get yourself a pint glass, and push the cork in with the butt of a knife. Once you get a tiny opening, turn the bottle upside down towards the pint glass. It'll come out with a trickle at first, but keep repeating until there is enough room in the bottle for the cork to go all the way through. Turn over again, and voila, lovely pint of wine

TA'd that I'm working again with the machine, someone who can just churn out repetitive work while I struggle to keep my brain turned on. It's additional work, which we should never have to do, and as it's admin/repetitive, I can't do it. I just can't. I'll do what I can but have to stop or I'll make (money costing) mistakes. It's not what I was hired for (my job requires thinking) and I said as much in the interview that I'm not cut out for admin/repetitive work, and was promised there wouldn't be any and that my job would always require thinking as the repetitive stuff is not within my role. Which it did, up to now. We won't be doing anything like it once this is all over, and we even had to 'self train' on a new system so we could complete this. And it's all numbers, and it's not numerically ordered!!!

Meanwhile she's doing 4-5 times more than anyone else. And I just can't.

TA'd that that makes me sound like a 'smarter than you' type, when i'm not!

Brute force really. Put the bottle on the ground and push the cork into the bottle using an implement like the end of a wooden spoon or similar

Or use a normal screw, leave about a quarter out, and use a strong fork or pliers or one of those hammers with the "nose" to remove nails to leverage it out.

In regards to the cork, if you have a screw to screw into the cork, you can pull it out with a fork.

In those no corkscrew situations I always use the winebottle/shoe method.. a bit scary to try at firat but works nicely.

Too hard to explain here so google is the answer, but it pops the cork out cleanly

Forgot which thread I'm on..my TA is that I can't concentrate on anything I start watching. Have started so many films and series of late, very few keeping me interested

I heard a lot of moaning from my old class about how hard their final assignment is.

I had just read a how to do x, by a well known academic. This laysout exactly how to do a 1.1 level assessment.

Despite my better judgement, I passed on the paper, not a single thank you from any of them.

Ta'ed I cant shake the feeling that they are not reading it cause it came from me.
