Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Had a look at the squad lists and there's a lot of talent in this tournament. I like the balance of Senegal and can see them going far. Ivory Coast has some very exciting attacking power, although probably in the toughest group.

Should be interesting. Salah will be looking to get off to a flying start this evening.

Pleased to see Edouard Mendy starting in goal for Senegal for the Tanzania game. He was one of the best keepers in Ligue 1 with Reims this past season. Sadio Mane suspended but looks like they have a strong spine with Koulibaly, Gueye and Niang up top. Ismaila Sarr had a good campaign with Rennes too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Great second for Senegal, poor Sarr has been kicked often so far & Niang could have had 3 so far but hasn't got 1.

Fantastic strike, some power in it!

Benin vs Morocco going to extra time. Ziyech just hit the post with a pen in the 4th minute of injury time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Senegal through after a tepid win vs Uganda. Mane scored and missed a penalty, I can only think it was pity which kept the Uganda keeper on for penalty after he nearly saw red after 3 minutes.
Benin will be there opponents after they knocked out Morocco in quite an upset. They survived a 94th minute penalty miss by Ziyech, a bizarre red card in extra time and won the shootout.

Benin paying homage to ourselves back in the day. They've made it to the QFs by drawing all their games.

Shock on, South Africa about to knock out the hosts and multiple winners Egypt.

South Africa have knocked out Egypt 1-0.

Madagascar's fairytale continues. They're into the quarter final after beating DR Congo on penalties.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

From what I've seen so far Algeria look the best team there. They've already beaten Senegal too.
It's not high praise as they look the best of a bad bunch.

Zaha has put Ivory Coast in front against Mali. A little over ten minutes to go. Pepe has been subbed; he's not helping his case for a big move with his performances in this tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Feel sorry for Mali. I think they've been the better side, just lack the quality to finish things off. I'm surprised how much CIV have struggled to make an impact on this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,991 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Just looking through the details and results of today's game, and thought there was some mistake on the report - Adama Traoré was listed as coming on in both the 53rd, and 63rd minutes. Then realised there are in fact two Adama Traoré's in the Mali squad. Hilariously, neither are the Adama Traoré from Wolves, who does in fact also qualify to play for Mali.

We all dream of a team of Traoré's?

Tunisia take the lead against Ghana with 15 minutes remaining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Ghana grab an equaliser in stoppage time via an O.G. from the sub Bedoui.

    Extra-Time on the way.

Woeful og to concede. Poor header, poor goalkeeping.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Jordan Ayew blows a great chance to win it for Ghana. Wonder how costly that miss will be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Tunisia changing their keeper right before the shootout starts. Keeper being replaced not happy but at least he hasn't done a Kepa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭jester77

Don't blame him, I would be pretty pissed to play 120 mins, and then not be given the chance to be the hero

    Quarter-Finals VAR starts from here
    Wednesday 10th July

Is there any channel showing matches besides eurosport? Or any free legal streams or the likes at all?

Fairly teribly attendance for Senegal V Benin, vast majority of the stadium (at least of what appears on camera) is just empty.
The music is good enough craic at least though.

    0-0

Great goal from Senegal, a proper burst of class from Idrissa Gueye, drove through Benin with a little one-two, and finished well.

Senegal in good shape for the semi final now I'd say. 1-0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,991 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

VAR rule out another goal, Mane this time, which was a great ball through and finish. Didn't get any proper replays so very hard to tell. From what little they showed of it, it looked like it was only his arm offside... serious lack of replays though. Weird.

Senegal should have ahd another just now too, burst through, and major goalmouth scramble to keep it out. Mane really causing problems now, driving through and getting picked out in space.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Benin remind me of that Greece team that won the Euros. Very hard to break down and looking to take any lucky chance that falls their way. Won't be sad to see the back of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Algeria 1-0 up against Ivory Coast.

Been a good open game so far. Ivory Coast look a lot better than the other day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

1-1 now. Kodjia with the goal for Ivory Coast. Algeria with a missed pen to make it 2-0.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

The outfield players have made move blocks for shots than the goalie for Ivory Coast

Selective vision by the ref there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Thought they might have given that as a pen but pleased they didn't. Would have been soft.

1-1 after 90 minutes. Extra-Time on the way.

    Cornet on for Zaha.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Penalties on the way.

Delort had a chance to win it with a free-kick in the last second but put it wide.

I think Algeria deserve to go through on balance of play but who knows what will happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Bony's pen saved. Advantage Algeria now.

Algeria miss the chance to win it, hitting the post! Ivory Coast with a chance to take it to sudden death.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

That Bounedjah guy is going to give himself a heart attack if he keeps that up.

Algeria go through after captain Serey Die hits the post.

    Think it's the right outcome.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Astonished Bony gets a call up, he looks like he's out of shape the past 3 years.

Algeria 1-0 up through an own goal, this after Senegal got through Tunisia earlier with another own goal. A fitting way to reach the final given the standard of the tournament so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Penalty Nigeria. Harsh but I'd give it tbh. Arm was too far from his side.

    1-1

    Mahrez, absolutely unbelievable.
