I'm looking for a new PC. I have 600-1000 to spend but the cheaper the better. At least 2.6Gz, 40GB harddrive, CD-RW, DVD drive + all the usuals. It must also have Windows XP and the likes of Microsoft Word, Works (the more software the better).

    Cheers.

Your best bet is to build your own or buy one from Dell.

There boys arent too bad.. they do some good deals on the hardware as
long as your not looking for something too fancy..

A basic one at the moment is going for about €800 ex VAT which has pretty much
    what your looking for:

    2.8Ghz P4, 512MB RAM, DVD/CDRW, 80GB Hard Drive, Win XP..

I dont have anything to do with them before you ask, but if you arent building one
yourself then these might be worth checking out..

    http://www.pcp.ie/

But as bennyx said, you can build a much higher spec one yourself for a lot less..

Heres three PC's from Dell, all within your price range.(€540, €740 & €990) Includes delivery & VAT.

Not too bad if you ask me!

the best bet IMO for a decent system is buy a dell and upgrade the crap parts. dell make very good systems but are often let down by graphics card and a few others. so i'm just buying a dell and swapping in new hardware :)

Would you recommend downgrading to 1 Year Collect and Return Service and saving 149 euro?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 559 ✭✭✭jongore

It really depends on what you know about computers, most problems are down to software and if you feel comfortable reinstalling stuff that goes wrong go ahead and reduce the cover.

I'm on my third dell and I've never had any hardware problems, every now and then some software fails but it's easy to reinstall. So I've always picked the 1 year collect and return option

Cheers jongore. When you are buying a PC would you pay the extra 100 for the Pentium 4 and whats the difference? What others would you upgrade?

BTW - They are giving a free Printer/Scanner/Copier if you order within the next 2 days.

Me neither, and thats a pity cuz they seem pretty sweet price wise (provided they don't fist you with shipping charges!) :D

    Yes ,Ebuyer deliver to Ireland.
Put in Eire as the postcode and it should do it.
I have ordered a number of times from them.
Delivery is steep though ,around 50 euro.

Go to Jaguar www.jagcompsystems.ie and buy a barebones P4 system and add in a few upgrades, deliver all over Ireland and COD also.

Could make a nice PC upgrade for 600 for about 800 could get a TFT also.

Not much of a fan of jaguar, would rather buy parts seperatly and build...... better quality products would be used. Watch as their prices are + Vat (21%), but are still very good.

    The website is http://www.jaguarcompsys.ie/ btw.

www.elara.ie also will build systems for you and might be worth a look.
