Ok i love the snow but, and its a big but. I'm flying out to New York tomorrow and would really like to get there. what are the chances that the airport in dublin will be ok tomorrow. Is much snow expected :o:o

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,327 ✭✭✭sunbabe08

I hope so, but my head says no. Wind looks to be Southwest which will rule out coastal snow for us. I would think midland areas and Dublin again.
Still it's worth watching out for
No matter what happens roads could could be lethal Saturday morning after wet roads freeze.
All in all a frustrating week for us rebels, but keep watching the radar tonight! I believe tonight before midnight is our best chance!

i may go mad if this doesnt happen

    Joke to brighten your day!

    The Donkey

Young Paddy bought a donkey from a farmer for £100.
The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day…
The next day he drove up and said, ‘Sorry son, but I have some bad news. The Donkey has died.’
Paddy replied, ‘Well then just give me my money back.’
The farmer said, ‘Can’t do that. I’ve already spent it.’
Paddy said, ‘OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.’
The farmer asked, ‘What are you going to do with him?’
Paddy said, ‘I’m going to raffle him off.’
The farmer said, ‘You can’t raffle a dead donkey!’
Paddy said, ‘Sure I can. Watch me. I just won’t tell anybody he’s dead.’
A month later, the farmer met up with Paddy and asked, ‘What happened with that dead donkey?’
Paddy said, ‘I raffled him off.
I sold 500 tickets at two pounds a piece and made a profit of £898′
The farmer said, ‘Didn’t anyone complain?’
Paddy said, ‘Just the guy who won.
So I gave him his two pounds back.’
Paddy now works for Anglo Irish Bank.

Reasonably close - further down the hill towards the luas:)

It's crazy the way the weather can be so different only a few hundred metres down the road. I went to Sandyford Hall for a bag of chips earlier (cold weather making me hungry) and there was less snow there, and thats only a 10 minute walk from here. Looks like we might get another couple of inches tonight!

Just measured the depth of snow on the roof of the car - looks like we've had 7cm since yesterday afternoon by Willsbrook Park in Lucan.

Coming down heavily now in a sort of hail (I assume that's graupel?).

Has been snowing here on and off all day. Alternating between light and heavy snow showers. Good 7-8cm so far judging by car roof.

Lightening in Swords. Snow shower a while ago. Can we expect more?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,810 ✭✭✭Calibos

I am embaressed to admit this but I have a major case of 'sour grapes' goin on atm.
On the East Coasts biggest snow day in 23 years Bray Seafront area accumulated 1 inch of hail/ Graupel combo in a half hour shower at 10am. The resulting slush has 'soaked' up what little 2-3 minute showers of hail and graupel we got on and off the rest of the day. ie. Our slush got bulked up. We have had about 30 minutes total in showers today whereas Greystones on the other side of Bray head about 2 miles away has had 30 minutes without falling snow today. Bray has been under a gap in Cloud Streams all day long.

What we have is enough to be massively inconvenient to people but not enough to be worth a play in nor is it aesthetically pleasing to look at.

If this is all Bray can hope for for the rest of this cold period then I would prefer it were gone.

PS. I recognise that as an adult this level of sour grapes and frustration and resultant bad mood and snappyness all because I didn't get the types or amounts of snow I wanted is symptomatic of addiction and I will soon be seeking professional help. :D
