Another windy day today with wind gusts increasing and reaching their peak around 9pm.

10 metre winds will reach 30KT widely and upto 40KT in places.

Wind gusts will reach 50-65KT in places.

I will highlight peak of winds between 6pm and 9pm with widespread gusts 50-60KT (90-110km/hr)

GFS gives 950hpa winds from 110 to as high as 135 km/hr over the country and that
isn't that far off the surface.

Seems tomorrow is going to be a windy day. Not as windy as the last few days though.

    12010500_0406.gif

Also there seems to be high pressure building to our south west. What does this mean?

This is terrible news, I have just secured my aviary door again, with my remaining birds left inside. If they get out, that is it for my bird loving days. Such a cruel creature, the wind that is.

Estofex have a Level 1 warning for the northern half of the country for potentially severe wind gusts this evening/tonight.

... Late evening and night hours British Isles to BENELUX, NW Germany and W Denmark...

With the arrival of another major baroclinic system, model fields suggest significant dry intrusion behind the jet-streak, possibly spreading partly over the low level warm sector of the surface low. As an interesting note, dry air is expected to penetrate below 700 hPa as suggested by GFS cross sections! A strongly forced convective line seems like a possibility, especially when taking into the account very strong dynamics of the system, even though instability will likely be only marginal at best. 850 hPa flow over 40 m/s ensures very strong wind shear at lower levels and points to the possibility of severe wind gusts and tornadoes within such line. Where exactly will such a line pass is a matter of question, on which models do not agree. Therefore a broad Level 1 is introduced to cover range of possibilities. An update with even an upgrade to Level 2 might follow during the day if situation becomes more certain.

WC, you should get down to the O2, between that building and the Gibson hotel there is an incredible funnel effect coming through the IFSC

Twas the bumpiest/shaky approach to Dublin airport I've ever had this morning. Can only imagine its worse now. Lucky we seem to have got in between yesterday and this evening!

That gust of 54kts at Malin is 100kmph so there prediction of up to 120kmph is fairly spot on i think.

Its like bloomin' Ground Hog day here in Limerick.

More wind again - its been howling since noon.

Thankfully the solar panels stayed on the roof on Monday night (himself was worried that they'd blow and take the roof plus most of the contents of the attic with them :D )

What are the chances of the current windy spell (the one that's lasted since about last September!!) coming to an end or are we stuck on a weather loop?

And look out for the development of a potential squall line at the back of the front as it pushes south this is where wind potential really picks up. Should be sometime around 9pm.

    We shall see.

Can hardly stand outside with the winds at the moment, would advise anyone in SW Donegal to stay indoors as conditions are dangerous..

Fairly Windy-ish here, nothing that unusual given recent storms, but I could just have become so acclimatised to the constant stronger winds that it hardly registers now.

Today has had to have been one of the wettest most miserable I can remember in a long time- constant wind and rain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

    Gales here still quite strong.

You wouldnt know much sitting in and watching TV though but when i stick my head out and look over the fields the winds are really getting going.
