Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm managing Blackburn so have uncovered David Hoilett (young reserve striker) as a bit of a starlet. His overall is only 68 but he's a great finisher. He's very quick too.

Anyone else found any young stars at their clubs?

It seems to me that some young players are far better than their overall score - sort of like the way you used to be able to buy class young players in Championship Manager.

Macheda at United is very good, he's a quailty finisher and is a bit of a beast in the air, he wins more headers than Rooney.

Agreed on Macheda, tried him out in the Carling Cup and his finishing is exellent. Also Zoran Tosic's free kicks are outstanding and Darren Gibson's long shots are up there with Lampard's. Would reccommend those 3.

Mark Quigley at St Patricks Athletic and Billy Kee and J.Miles at Accrington Stanley.

    Heroes

midfielders: gibson(united, long shots and passing), inler(udinese, passing, shooting, reading the game)
strikers: daniel sturridge(chelsea, fast and good all round) showunmi (leeds, really strong and fairly good finisher, good in air, dirt cheap)

Frank Fielding at Blackburn is an excellent young 'keeper. He was England U21 'keeper there for a while so that's probably why.

I Would recomment Dos santos for Tottenham. he is quick and a great finisher(scored a lot of lobs with him!!) but he lacks some aerial presence and a bit of strength! a good addition though late in a game!!

im united in my game. For many of my league cup and Fa cup games i throw out mostly youngsters. Im very fond of Macheda, Welbeck, Gibson, Da Laet, the Da Silva twins, Da Laet, Tosic and Obertan. Gibson and Welbeck are pretty much in my squad for all league matches and the rest of the above listed are on border line of the first team.
    Great youngsters at United FTW!

Does anyone else have trouble buying players with lower division teams? I'm using Brighton to get the achievement for 2 straight promotions and get them to be a 5 star rated team in 5 seasons but cant seem to sign any players cos they're not interested in joining!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭Bobalicious93

Offer them higher wages than they're already on and they should come. If you hold down the arrow button on the wages column when you're making an offer the interest bar will start to go up after a while

Anyone else having trouble getting their players to sign new contracts? A few of mine have 3 months left and I'm doubling some of their wages and they still aren't signing.

i play manager mode as birmingham, signed wheater from boro, taylor from newcastle, traore from arsenal, wilshere from arsenal, and ledley from cardiff. the two centre halfs are solid at the back, traore flies down the wing, he's got super pace, i play ledley in right midfield, he's a good crosser of the ball and a great dead ball specialist. wilshere plays just behind the front 2 and he banging in the goals

how do i buy players that aren't on the transfer list, or is that possible?

  • Registered Users Posts: 172 ✭✭darraghjm

yeah its possible, when you go into the transfer market, hit the y button, and you get the option to search for players, you can narrow it down to club, leagues, position, age, ability or you can just search by name as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭eioneill

Just finished my 1st season in manager mode with United. Went trawling through the teams abroad for top players for my second season. Came up with 2 jems. Marcus Berg and Eljero Elia. Both play for Hamburger SV in Germany.

Here are some lists (16-19yo & 20-23yo) players that are quality and still have room to grow over a few seasons, and the list at the bottom is of players with the highest growth potential. Some of the players overlap into the 3rd list, but you get the picture. Alot of these youngsters you will get for some great prices. Some favourites on the list apart from the obvious ones ie Ronaldo, Messi etc are Balotelli, Hazard, Holtby, Jovetic, Santon, Rui Patricio (gk), Pjanic, Di Maria,

Im a huge united Fan aswell. But i didn't choose them as a team to play with because i have always found the manager mode to be quite boring with them. Great team starting off a ton of money and already qualified for all tournaments! Wheres the challenge...

I suppose, but would you not rather start off with a smaller club and work your way up? They should only let you start with one star teams, in my opinion.

I dont mind starting with united as i support them, but i enjoy offloading the majority of the existing players and building the squad back up with youngsters and others players ive found in the above list or spotted on tv.

I went to Utd and did a bit of a cleanout first season, got rid of Berbatov, Valencia, Scholes (who went to Liverpool!) and bought in some quality players like Eto'o. Best players I've bought over the last 2 seasons are

    Plasil (from Wolfsburg I think?)
    Gourcuff (from Bordeaux)
    Raul Albiol (from Real)
    Michel Bastos
    Enke (from Hannover I think)

I recommend Navas as well, I'm Real and he's far more effective on the right than Kaka is on the left - might offload Kaka in the summer :D Quick q - is there any kind of reward, achievements or after-match scenes if you win the cup/league? And is there never any European matches?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 JuanFuego

I had the same issues with kaka out wide and attempted to sell him in the summer but found no one was willing to pay the $79m for him. So i ended up keeping him by default and trying him up front instead. Best move i ever made. He is definately worth keeping if u use him as a striker, and sit ronaldo in behind him and benzema. I found ronaldo was wasted out wide, but in a CAM role he often finds space at the top of the box/penalty spot as well as being quality in the air. His height/jump are wasted on the wing, and this also applies for Kaka. Ya Ya Toure is my favourite DM in fifa...solid across the board.

Oh right, did you change your formation from the original default one in that case? Just because I have Ronaldo sitting behind Benzema and the two CM roles are more defensive

Some players I've signed that have worked out well for Villareal in my 3rd Season In Manager Mode.

John Obi Mikel CDM from Chelsea -
    Michel Bastos LM ?
    Vitor Obinnha ST (great pace)
    Fernando Gago CM Real Madrid
Barry Murphy GK Shamrock Rovers (Cheap but good for a reserve GK)
    Mat Hummels RB ?
    Santon CB Inter Milan
Achille Emana CAM Real Betis (great player to use as a winger, has pace and a good crosser of the ball)
    Jovetic CF Fiorentina
    Keirrison CF ?

Also Guiseppe Rossi from Villareal is a quality player

I'm having loads of sucess with Fran Merida of Arsenal, Playing him just behind front two his passing seems to be excellent.

Oh right, did you change your formation from the original default one in that case? Just because I have Ronaldo sitting behind Benzema and the two CM roles are more defensive

I play 442 with the midfield set in a diamond formation. I think u will find Kaka is quality up front with ronaldo sitting in behind.

Now before u all start to laugh, another player ive found to be quality squad player is Chris Burke from Portsmouth. He has great pace, and good cross and a solid shot. He is great for beating his man out wide and crossing, or cutting in and striking from distance. A cheap, solid buy.

Not sure if he's been mentioned yet but Victor Moses from Crystal Palace is a quality striker to sign. Only cost me €2.5 million. His skill is great, pace is quality and his finishing out of this world. Bought him for Newcastle.

His overall ratinig when I signed him was 76 and has now gone to 81.

Do it. Do it. Do it.

With lower league players its a bit of a gamble. Ive found that buying guys that have good acceleration/speed more so than overall rating do damage in the lower leagues. Just see on average what your top 5 players are rated, and then search for players that around roughly that rating, maybe slightly higher if u have put some money into your negotiator. Then out of those searches, check their stats and see that "acceleration" (2nd stat down) is higher than most. They are always a worth while buy as their speed will take them past lower level defenders, and u will get enough chances, that even if his finishing isnt great u will get one eventually. Once u buy a few new players, just pump all your money into fitness for a season to allow your players not to tire after one match.

Lads I signed 2 players on loan, and signed a bunch of free agents. But then when I go to sign a player for cash it tells me I can't make that offer because I already have 2 players on loan?? Anyone else have this problem??
