Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Except for those wanting digital :(

As previously posted by me and other posters on here. Go with the disc edition if financially feasible. It’ll have a better resale value and doesn’t restrict you to the expensive PS store where in 10 years time it shuts down. It does everything the DE does and you’re getting a cheap 4K/8k Blu-ray player for €99 extra! The DE PS5/Xbox consoles will one day be a paperweight, they’ll be no more useful than a Unison box, the Disc edition will still be a functional PS5 in 2038

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭recyclops

Both are feasible and I gave the disc edition I picked up to my bro, this is a secondary console for sony exclusives only really and I game share so it makes no sense to shell out really. Series X will be the main console but sony tend to have one or so games a year I want to play, they also do very good digital sales.

I see why people who want to constantly sell to cex etc to get games as cheap or shop around to save a fiver/ tenner off a game makes sense but its just not for me.

I also think if you sell to Cex to keep gaming cheap you cant really moan when Cex use the same model to horde PS5 and turn a profit on it as well ( thats not aimed at you btw)

8K blu-ray isn't a thing yet, even if/when it is the PS5 won't be able to run the discs. The HDMI port technically supports 8K but if this version of the console ever has any significant 8K content I will be shocked.

Saying that, I'd agree the disc version is the only way to go, and it's a pretty good 4K blu-ray player.

I'll probably get the disc version even though most of my PS4 games are digital, I use Psplus and PSNow.

Sorry for going off topic.....where is the best place to get the 4K blu-ray discs?

    Thanks,
    M

@ 5star02707 congrats, no sign of mine yet but should.have it by Monday which suits me fine.

My position on Disk v Digital is I prefer the ease of digital and can wait for sales mostly but the must have Day 1 games like GOW2 or RE8 will always be cheaper on disk.

Up until recently at least Zavvi did deliver but they have a delivery cost. It used to be 4.50. I think it might be 3 euro now.

Smyths just tried to charge me for the PS5 that I ordered on Tuesday. So that's a good sign.
Although it wouldn't accept my Revolut for some reason. Anyone know how long it would take once payment has been taken?

I would expect it to be shipped by end of day tomorrow at latest. My card was charged too, and option to cancel preorder is gone from account.

Is it me or is this launch far worse than previous ones?

No its not just you, availability-wise this is far worse than any console launch that I can remember, and I can remember back to about the PS1 launch.

The only launch that even comes close to this was the PS2, that was also like gold dust but there was no problem getting one by about February. Wii was a similar situation.

Still remember my mate who worked in Gamestop texting to let me know they'd a few Wii's just arrived that weren't being used to fulfil preorders, this was a week before Christmas and 10 units had just landed unexpectedly and the store had decided to give the next few people who came in and asked for one a nice surprise. I was one of those 'surprised' individuals! No chance of being able to slip that through under the radar these days

Every single Nintendo releasee is like this, the Wii, the DS, 3DS and Switch, I had to get my Switch off a fella because that was rare. For a year we had most stores with no Switches.

Plenty of spare Wii U though! :D

I'm not holding out much hope. The say no stock until March and I'm inclined to believe them.

Smyths order from Wednesday arrived today in case anyone is in the same boat.
Had a text it was coming Monday but came early.

Supposedly Curry's in Jervis st is taking pre orders now. Tried calling them as I am in work but no joy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,768 ✭✭✭Doodah7

Shipping confirmation from Gamestop of my order of 23 February. A heads up for those that got in that afternoon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 556 ✭✭✭Fine Cheers

Not sure if you can order over the phone with Curry's. I thought you had to call in to the store ?

I was in Curry's Jervis today and I could order one to be collected. I opted for an xbox instead but I could have gotten a PS5 if I wanted.

Hard to know. I asked three people yest in Currys. One said I'll have it this week, another said next week and another said 2 to 3 weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,975 ✭✭✭nkay1985

Just ordered in Curry's, Waterford. They had three bundles: with Miles Morales, Demon Souls or an extra controller. The girl said they should be in over the weekend, obviously not sure if that's correct. They had another few slots available when I was leaving about an hour ago.

Most of the employees I saw were bored low level staff. The lady I spoke to seemed to be the manager. She said 2-3 day wait for PS5 and up to 10 days for Xbox.

But I don't know how reliable that is.

Just a heads up,went to PC World Blanchardstown and was told they no longer take names for pre order. If they have stock, people just have to go in and buy it.

He said the ques were causing a problem for the store so there now trying this.

They had 180 PS5's this morning which all sold out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,768 ✭✭✭Doodah7

Curry's now happy to sell to the public so I assume that staff, friends and family have been sorted...

    Strange logic...

Queues were causing a problem so they now ask people to come to their store anyway. That should solve the problem lol.

Thought exactly the same thing but no point in saying it.

He did mention specifcally Friday morning,I can't make it with college but might be worth checking out if people can make it up there.

Got lucky in the latest Argos drop and mine delivered this evening. Cheers for the updates.
Goodbye & good luck to y'all. It's been emotional!

Argos drop? Did they release some and I completely missed it?

No Argos drop for Ireland , that was in the UK which strangely that poster didn’t bother to clarify. Amazon dropped today but I couldn’t get near completing the purchase .

Because I didn't know if there was any for Ireland; I could only speak for the UK.

But you do realise this is an Irish site, and virtually everyone here is looking for one in Ireland?

This is the second time he's talked about UK drops as if they were Irish ones. I think he's doing it for attention.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,062 ✭✭✭OhHiMark

Yes. However, am I not allowed to participate in this thread and share my own experiences as a foreigner? If I knew about any Irish drops I'd post them as well to help yous out.

    I'm not a "he".

    I apologise for saying he.

You have to assume that if you come onto an Irish forum and start talking about getting a PS5 from Argos, people will assume you mean in Ireland. And I see you didn't deny doing it for attention.

That is exactly what I assumed!

Called in to Liffey Valley Currys earlier to enquire, as I was nearby.
Added my name and number to the list and said I was around 130th on the list and it could be a month before I hear anything.

Cex offering 595 is a good indicator.

Still more that RRP/official price, but we are getting close to normal price.
