Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And it should be accepted that religious ideas, alongside any ideas, should be open to criticism.

Would you have been saying the same when Rubberbandits went on the Late Late Show and called communion "Haunted Bread"? Of course not. And what's the difference here?

    Exactly.

Both pretty mundane items given some sort of importance by their respective religions.

Both are equally open to ridicule by people that don't subscribe to the religions.

    Or even those that do.

Just because one of these religions happens to be more 'sensitive' than the other shouldn't change anything.

It does look like a towel. Why shouldn't people be able to point that out.

**edit just to say I'm talking about this towel comment, and this alone. All the "mad backwards c**t" stuff pre fight was definitely islamophobic and not in any way funny.**

If Khabib starts going on about Islamaphobia or any of the rest of it, Conor should direct him to his mysogynstic comments on how women belong in the home.

    Stones and glass houses etc.

Conor wasn't right to say it, but it is merely mocking and certainly doesn't fit the definitions of racist.

And here lies the issue. If you, I, or Conor McGregor decide to call out the fact that this is wrong, is that Islamophobic? By the standards set out earlier in the thread, some would be calling it racist!

I'm all for respecting religious beliefs, or any beliefs. but it should also be respected that others will not hold those same beliefs and if they think that people eating "Haunted Bread" on a Sunday is silly, they should be allowed say so.

She does look like a towel though.

It's a pretty sad picture in fairness.

Is a ceremonial dress. Is the custom in that particular area. She isn't gonna be walking around liked that all of the time

So he didn’t offend his wife as she doesn’t actually look like a towel?

    No big deal.

I thought that was more an observation from everyone who watched it.

Absolutely didn't give full respect to Khabibs skills and paid for it, I'd hope he'd have a bit more sense for the rematch, if there is one.

Sorry thats what i meant. People here saying it. Conor felt he was ready so no one should make excuses for him is what i meant

Seriously though can they put them in same building again without a brawl breaking out. Khabib flipped over religion can imagine what he'd do for insulting his wife. Ali is stirring sh1t big time. Its gone too far now

I hope what’s happened today doesn’t jeopardize the chances of Khabib x Mcgregor 2 later in the year.
No doubt it sells the fight even more and brings in more ppv, but there is a real nasty edge between the 2 camps now, that could result in more trouble than its worth. In last fight I think Khabib could have crushed Mcgregor jaw if ref hadn’t stepped in, but he may not let the ref stop him next time. I just think Conor has been going way too far with the insults, it used to be funny, he was so charismatic and entertaining, but something changed in him in the lead up to mayweather.
Am still hoping for the big triumphant comeback and him winning back the belt and a couple of defenses (especially giving Diaz a shot for title) before he retires unharmed. And it’s a shame he no longer seems to be the type of character who will be a UFC lifer like Bisping, Cormier who we will continue to see on tv for many years after their fighting days.

You'd want security ready to pull Khabib off him when the ref declares it over there's no way he's listening to the referee this time.

Dana will be livid that the allegations were brought up or repeated by Ali and Khabib (likely Ali posting). Not a hope he finds it funny or is 'creaming himself' at the publicity.

We're not talking about the dolly incident.

If you think Dana wants more attention brought to allegations of this nature against the UFCs biggest star - for a lot of people the face of the UFC - you're living in fantasy land.

Enormous effort has gone into minimizing the reach of these allegations. On both sides of the Atlantic.

Sometimes even the New York Times prints stories about MMA.

This is a story about Moraingy which is some kind of mixed martial art performed in Madagascar. The journalist is a Finbarr O'Reilly so definitely some Irish connection although he was born in Wales. I thought it was interesting. Here it is.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/05/world/africa/madagascar-moraingy.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FMixed%20Martial%20Arts&action=click&contentCollection=timestopics&region=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=4&pgtype=collection

NY Times has a paywall so you only get to read a few of their stories a month for free. In case you might prefer to read some of their other articles, you might not want to use it on this one. But this one is interesting. Whether other ones are as interesting is subjective I guess. I haven't read many due to the paywall restriction.

Are you getting one of your bouts of confusion again?

That's not about MMA, or a form of MMA. It's a martial art from Madagascar. Looks like a style of striking with a preference of boxing over kickboxing.

The whole ignorant troll schtick is hilariously woeful.

What's with the attitude? If you don't like it, ignore it. Others might find it interesting. This is "off-topic" thread anyway.

I can't give a link to the NYT MMA page for reasons which I won't state, but that is where I saw the story first. So they obviously thought it would appeal to people interested in MMA.

Here's an MMA site which reviewed the article. https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2018/11/6/18067872/moraingy-madagascar-centuries-old-version-mixed-martial-arts-traditional-bare-knuckle-africa-history

Where I did I say I didn't like it, or it wasn't interesting? I said it wasn't MMA, as you know that. Came across as another attempted at "Im confused about the MMA stuff".

I thought the article itself was great. I Find the co-evolution of martial arts all over the word interested. Regularly listen to a padcast on the very topic.

Yeah it's ok. I thought you were saying that I was trolling and putting something that was not MMA related into the forum. When I genuinely wasn't. I was trying to add to conversation. I'm not posting on those other threads again. The feedback one or the Conor McGregor one. Wasn't trying to piss you off or start a row

This is possibly the best option if it's to be kept strictly for fight talk. There's no sign of one yet so no point keeping it open for people to post non fight stuff in (something I'm guilty of myself)

Since Diaz 2 fight he has been turning up so late to the point that the presser is mostly ruined.
Khabib left the last one so we didn’t get any back and forth between them.
Alverez had left but came back, and presser was enjoyable.
Diaz walked off and near riot happened, then had to be stopped.
Just cos he became massive superstar doesn’t mean he shouldn’t turn up on time, or at least not so late so as to spoil things.
The last presser he was there on time was the announcement for ufc205.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,355 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

All these Jon Jones headliners this year are getting boring now. He is too good and fights too 1-sided unless he fights Cormier again. Also need to see Cormier vs Stipe again.
We need Conor back headlining and doing it regular like 2015/16.
Or at least get Covington in there to entertain us.

I agree the turning up late is a pain in the hole. But that wasn't in the post I quoted.

    Both Diaz fights, Eddie, Khabib.
There was media events before all of them. Some where fun, some were cringy, one turned into a brawl. Conor was at them all.
I don't remember any fight were he did't do media before it.

None since 189 were as big as the world tour, understandably so imo.

The week leading up to Mcgregor fights are fantastic. Pressers are entertaining and weigh-ins are in front of thousands of mostly Irish fans. And that’s all down to him, so such a shame it’s not happening so much now.
For mayweather fight the 4 press conferences were far better than the fight. Unreal the way both of them could speak and act with that much confidence and arrogance.
Others can be good too but don’t reach the scale of Mcgregor.
