Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Leona finished tied 14th in Australia at the weekend on the Ladies European Tour, 2k richer. Hopefully keeps momentum going :)

It's great to see Irish women tour players back in the mix again. She did a podcast two weeks ago btw https://podcast.iseekgolf.com/

However...and maybe I'm being overly critical...but I was hoping that her entry into the pro ranks would be more explosive than it is.

Now don't get me wrong -its great that she is making progress and cuts etc but I just think that she is capable of more -at least based on her stellar amateur career. Perhaps it simply underscores how tough it is out there..

It takes time. You have to get used to the travel, being organised is so important.
All the little things like staying in the right places, having the right foods etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Absolutely takes time. Always thought she made the sensible move to stay with her amateur career, finish college when the easiest thing would have been to succumb to the hype and set off on the pro circuit. Just look at the situation with Lydia Ko for comparison, winning majors and breaking records at 17, now struggling and looking slightly forlorn at 20. Golf is a long career, never any rush to the top.

Any chance a mod could fix the spelling of her name in the thread title? /ocd

I agree, I think all the food/travel piece was taken care of with her college circuit but missing out on her LPGA card has forced her further afield, it would have been a lot smoother had she a US based schedule

Going well again this week in the Symetra Tour opening event. Currently 3 shots off the lead and in the top 10 midway through the 3rd round

The leader is 14 year old Alexa Pano who appeared in the Netflix documentary The Short Game a few years back

T4 going into final round in Florida tonight, 3 shots off the leader. Hopefully a better finish than she had last week at the very least.

5th place for Maguire this week, round of -1 to finish 4 off the winner. Going the right way.

T1 on the Symetra Tour after 2nd round today.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Currently leading on her own by 1, but still quite a few players yet to finish their second rounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

6 over for her round already after only 8 holes. Still only 2 shots off the lead

Tough day so far for her. 6 over today through 8 but still only 2 back. Must be brutal conditions there

Too much to expect 2 Irish winners on the one day after GMAC. Still good showing and still in the hunt.

Not going to happen today sadly, just too many mistakes on the front nine.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Finished T4, which could be viewed as a bit disappointing having led into the final round. But it's a good learning experience for her, I think this is the first pro tournament she's led, and it's her second consecutive top 5 finish, so she's definitely starting the season well.

Great to see another good showing on symetra tour this week, currently T4 going into final round, three shots off leader. Looking like she's getting the hang of this pro lark now!

Tied for the lead now. 4 under through 6 for today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭tobsey

She’s -4 through 6 and tied for the lead at the moment. Would a win guarantee a LPGA card?

No still Only a few events in but would be a big step.

Presume she will pick up some good invites for LPGA tour regardless

In Lead by 1 on -10 through 9 holes

The top 10 in the money list at the end of the season get an LPGA card. Maguire is currently 7th with $14k, and a win is usually worth around $20k. For comparison, 10th on the list last year earned just over $60k, so the win would be a big jump for her but there's still a bit to go before she's earned her card.

Two shot lead with six to play.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭ConcertKing

Leona is 1 shot clear at -12 with 2 holes left now.

-7 for today.Playing some wonderful golf!

Still one shot clear heading down the par 5 18th.

Third round leader Pajaree Anannarukarn is making a late charge with 3 birdies in her last 4 holes so she is one behind with 2 to play and Casey Danielson is one behind playing the 18th with Leona.

Hopefully a birdie here for Leona will seal her maiden win!

  • Registered Users Posts: 532 ✭✭✭Spideog Rua

Par at 18....could be a playoff

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭ConcertKing

Both Leona and Danielson parred 18 so Leona has the clubhouse lead on -12.

Only Pajaree Anannarukarn can stop her now.

-11 going down the par 5 18th now!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭ConcertKing

Pajaree Anannarukarn birdies 18th and ties Leona on -12 so it's a playoff.

Pajaree played a great third shot on 18 to set up the birdie to get into the playoff to be fair.
