Announced this week at E3, Metro Exodus is the third game in the series, based on the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky.

The game picks up a little while after Metro: Last Light’s enlightened ending, which the team considers canon. We’ll still be playing as Artyom, but this time we’ll be setting out from Moscow and traveling East across Russia to find somewhere safe to live.

    Source

The article has some nice info. For example, it says the structure will be similar to LL, in that there'll be a mix of linear levels and open sections. This time though, the open sections will be much bigger. Enemy AI is being changed to accommodate the larger areas, with beasties able to wander around freely. There'll be a day/night cycle in Exodus, although we don't know how/if this will affect gameplay.

The first two games were great, so naturally a lot of us will be looking forward to this (release date is sometime in 2018). I was especially excited to read that the design mantra for the game is "STALKER meets Metro". Yes please.

Not much to add, except I am delighted to be getting another Metro game. I'm glad they don't seem to be going full-on open world though as I really liked the scripted linearity and the claustrophobic tunnel setting.

i have the first 2 Metro Games on the PS4,havent played them yet,all ive heard is good things, was a massive fan of Stalker back in the day,so anything trying that game style has to be welcome..

Have to say this is one of the best looking games I have ever seen on a console, I bet you will need a MONSTER PC to play it......deffo day one purchase.

Previous Metros when they came out needed a bit of power to run at very high.

    Decent games.

Yeah they did but the 1st one was very badly optimised, I played the others on console.

But this does look amazing, the XB1X looks to be a beast.

Its not open world, its still linear just the area may be bigger ie not a tunnel.

Assume more of the outdoor part before the church in Last light.

The recomended specs lists these days are hit and miss imo. Half of them stink of marketing deals with hardware manufacturers.

If you go here you can download the Epic Store. Very easy process.

Are the metro games worth playing? I got metro 2033 for free back in 2012 but never got around to it. Worth a play through? poorly dated?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,551 ✭✭✭✭Skerries

They are one of the best on-rails shooters going and still look gorgeous today as even at the time they needed a high spec machine and have also been remastered since

Metro games are amazing and usually I have a rule of not buying games on launch, but I might do it an exception.

Epic store at the moment makes GFWL looks decent.

I mistakenly got Ashen on it as I was looking forward to it. Best of luck trying to play Coop in that game, at least SteamWorks work.

Only a one year exclusivity tied to the deal. I suspect many (if not all) of these Epic Store 'exclusives' are timed. Will be interesting to see how it handles a AAA title on launch day - uPlay still shíts the bed on big title launch days and that's being going years.

Epic = sale lost from me, same with ashen which I was following for a long time. Same division 2 but wasn't a fan of the first one so no loss there j suppose.

The amount of cool games out in February is unreal, there's at least 5 I want to play including this.

I've always had a difficult relationship with the Metro games when I play them they start of amazing but I get tired of them. Still this does look fantastic god damn it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,411 ✭✭✭Icyseanfitz

to be fair its cheaper on the epic store

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

But! Consider the situation deeper. Someone says that they say they crap Exodus and the previous games in the series, it will make the world better, they will put greedy developers in their place. To this I can answer that in a pinch, if at all all the PC players announce a boycott of the Metro, then the next metro, if it does, is definitely not on the PC. Better or worse, decide for yourself. I personally feel sorry for the loyal fans, yes. But my assessment of the work done personally by me and my friends and colleagues will not change this. I firmly know that almost everyone who pours this dirt on the net is also incapable of a bit of what we have done and hopefully do more. And that means they have no idea what they are talking about.

Seems like they've created a self fulfilling prophecy, they put the game on a pc service other than steam (and in particular the epic/Fortnite) store, and expect it to sell like crazy.

Its kinda obvious what they said in a way though.
If people don't buy a game there won't be another sequel, if a specific platform's sales absolutely tank they likely will not bother supporting the platform; just ask the WiiU/Vita.
The children people review bombing the previous games to half their original score might be pleased if the franchise leaves PC tho. :P

Yea, I'm going to go out on a limb and say there was a certain nuance to his post that was lost in (Google) translation. :P

The recent decision to move Metro Exodus from Steam to the Epic Game Store was made by Koch Media / Deep Silver alone.

The recent comments made by a member of the 4A Games development team do not reflect Deep Silver’s or 4A Games’ view on the future of the franchise. They do reflect the hurt and disappointment of a passionate individual who has seen what was previously nothing but positive goodwill towards his work turn to controversy due to a business decision he had no control over. We respectfully ask that any and all valid feedback over this decision is directed at Koch Media / Deep Silver, and not the developers at 4A Games.

The future release strategy of the Metro series lies with Koch Media / Deep Silver. Our decision to partner with Epic Games was based on the goal of investing in the future of the series and our development partner at 4A Games. We have every intention of continuing this franchise, and a PC version will always be at the heart of our plans.

    Officialish post

Props for Deep Silver for standing in front of 4A on this one at least.

Those dudes have not had an easy path to get to where they are.

I kind of see the dev's view here. See some youtubers trying to say it's similar to the EA / BFV debacle. It's nothing like "you're all morons if you don't like it don't buy it"

In all honesty I dont know why they bothered with this exclusivity deal when it was going to generate enough bad rep to damage their sales. I believe Epic looks for less of a commission on their sales compared to steam but the problem with this is that many dont want to go to Epic becaude it doesnt have the same features as steam not to mention it means another launcher to install.

I'd be incredibly surprised if the deal Deep Silver signed wouldn't have covered them in such a scenario, whether it's via a sizable enough lump sum or an advance on first year sales based on projected numbers from the previous entries in the series. After the first year it'll return to Steam with, one assumes, a lower than initial retail price and those folk who held off until that point will bite.

As for regular sales, Epic do indeed take a smaller cut than Steam, it's 12% vs 30%. As such, in the event that that the fabled sales exodus does not occur, it'd benefit the publisher even further.

So if sales drop 40% they'll still make the same profit due to the store take cut on its own? Maybe my math is wrong?

Using some simplified, back of the napkin type math? They could absorb around a 20% drop in PC-based sales due to the difference in storefront cuts.

The CEO of the studio behind Battalion 1944 gave some more concrete numbers as part of an interview with gamesindustry.biz back in December and Mike Rose, founder of the indie publisher No More Robots, broke down some other numbers in an article on Variety here.

Yep you are right. 20% is a good buffer in fairness and if Epic has paid them for the exclusivity deal then that gives even more of a margin.

I don't think the change of stores will effect the bottom line at all.

Expect to see more develops move to Epic for those savings.

This is a difficult one, I don't want to end up installing loads of games selling clients but I also don't want steam to have a monopoly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,551 ✭✭✭✭Skerries

it's like Netlix compared to Amazon or Spotify and Deezer where one app has the lion's share of the market because they came out first and had time to add features as they go
This could also change in time as the minor players offer a better product as we have seen in the browser and search engine market

The Epic games client is not new but the games store is only 2-3 months old so I take it they are still working on features like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭EoinHef

Well a lot would depend on how the servers hold up on day of release IMO.

If the epic store servers can hold up and allow people to get decent speeds for their individual connection,id be ok with that. If the servers fall over on release day thats where i could see the s**t really hitting the fan!

Id expect there will be hick ups too, this by far hasnt to be their biggest launch yet? Bar fortnite obviously

I would say this givin i have fast unlimited internet but i can totally understand people with limited/metered connections not being happy.

    OT to the Metro issue......
    tuxy wrote: »

No real issue with a monoploy but I do expect features.

I can put it as simply as this, I turn on my pc and my clients:

    Steam
    Origin
    Uplay
    Gog
    Blizzard-thing
    Epic

And I see (usually from TS or discord) someone is playing X, I also see they have space on their team/coop squad whatever. I right click on them and JOIN.

Having played games tru the GFWL ****e and seen what happens to failed clients, Steamworks online **** works, no ports (mostly) just right click and join.

its 2019 I think I should expect that in a PC game, Epic is so far away from that unless the game is Fortnite I can join anyone in that (STW).
