Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Downhills are (mostly) fine as I can make back the places I lost on the way up, it's hairpin bends at the bottom of steep hills that give me terrors when buggy pushing. Kid loves them though. :D

The only other one is UL which would be difficult (if not impossible) with a buggy.

Have done Lees Road and Clarisford previously and wouldn't be averse to re-visiting, but as there are a few more to chose from now and I'll be the one driving I'll be aiming the car in the direction of a new event for us if I can.

I would second Mungret or a return visit to us in Lees Road

Lees Road is fairly high up the list of potential destinations due to the higher chances of being able to persuade a buggy passenger minder along to there so I can give it a blast buggy free. :D

Your not likely to be cancelled the last week in August are you?

I have to give a +1 for Mungret too. I always run it with a buggy and it is a perfectly smooth surface. You have the Mungret park itself and the Mungret playground which is lovely early on a Saturday morning. You also have the Milk Thistle cafe that is very nice - I always go there for a scone and coffee afterwards.

You also have the Limerick tunnel which will save you a few minutes - however, at that hour, it's really not needed.

Let me know if you are thinking of coming over and I'll say hello and get you a coffee after if I am there. :)

I had a very hungover, very dehydrated and very hot parkrun in Wormwood Scrubs, West London last Saturday. It just happened to be the closest parkrun to where I was staying in London. Turns out to be right beside a rather large prison,
It's a very nice event though, there seemed to be a lot of people out supporting and encouraging, made for a good atmosphere.
it's all on grass which makes it a bit different, narrow in parts which was an issue as I had to go off coursed on the first lap to deposit my bag at the finsih line as I was too late to do this before the start.
good parkrun though, recommended.

Wormwood Scrubs is probably the most notorious prison in England with plenty of famous former residents.

I ran it when it was a bit muddy and found it very boggy and hard to run through the marshy area. The running track next door is the Linford Christie stadium.

Did Donabate two weeks ago, Ardgillan this past weekend. Enjoyed both, beautiful grounds. Also discovered there's one on the Isle of Man, haven't been there since I was in the scouts.

https://youtu.be/XvYK30OWLrg Link for the BBC programme about parkrun, with Kelly Holmes and featuring Strabane parkrun. Sound is missing in two short sections but it’s still watchable.

Got a notion to hit Dublin this weekend, saw that VHI & David Gillick are joining Fairview for their 2nd birthday.

Will head there for a look.

With St. Anne's not running [pun] tomorrow Fairview should be busier than usual.

Undecided where to run tomorrow but Malahide Castle is looking good.

Have you done Malahide?.. Its really nice, beautiful grounds and just a straight drive up the Malahide Road from Fairview. If I'd a choice between the two I'd go Malahide.

In between both there's Father Collins but of the three along the Malahide Road I'd go with Malahide, if you're making the effort to come to Dublin.

Not driving, will hit Fairview this time. Plenty of time to spread the Ted around.

Enjoy.

If you're wandering around Fairview Bram Stokers house is opposite the park as is Stockers cafe.

Terrible insomnia last night so feeling 50/50 about running today, but likely I'll run.

Gave Progression Parkrun a go this morning, 7.5 laps, tough with the turns but dropped my PB down again by 24 seconds so overall very happy.

The guys were full of chats and very keen runners!

71st parkrun today. Beat my previous PB by 19 seconds.

Now at 22:11.

When I started my goal time was 24:59.

Hoping to get 21:59 in the next couple of weeks.

Did Carlow town this morning and a lovely setting for a run along the River Barrow. Nice crowd too and handy to get to as well. Suitable too for a double buggy as a girl was happily running along the towpath with passengers. Whether it would be possible to do that all year round, I don't know but might be handy info for someone.

Not sure if I did a parkrun first this morning in Ballina. I got a new rescue dog a couple of months ago and parkwalked with her today, she is slowly building up her confidence but all of the people at the finish line worried her so I crossed the line backwards, coaxing her along.

I wonder if anyone has ever done a whole parkrun backwards?

It was either here or on the MyWeeklyTimed podcast that I heard of someone backwards running a parkrun.

Well done on the rescue, I've got two myself.

Only remembered this late, might have a nosey next time.

Lovely parkrun, figure of 8 three times. Small hill on lap, with a section on grass. Over 100 more than their regular numbers. Great friendly bunch.

Cakes looked nice for celebrations, resisted temptation. Even though it was earned out-sprinting David Gillick.

I used to do Malahide every week and there was a guy there that ran backwards every time so you're not the first. Maybe the first with a dog though.

I presume it's just staff and prisoners.. Or did you apply to the prison to join it?

A 38 second discrepancy between the time on my Garmin and my official result. How is that even possible? Does take away from the experience a little bit.

Is Garmin right? Map all filled in, correct starting point, no gaps?

When i was running i didn't even bother with barcodes after first few.

I encountered the same guy in St Annes once, good few years ago now. Finished ahead of me too. Not impressed. Seemed like he was taunting. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just how I felt at the time.

I went down to Parkrun #100 for Poolbeg yesterday. It's a nice run as always, though you do go past the start line twice more before finishing. Some nice Bretzel bakeries goodies at the finish!

Did Russborough parkrun at the weekend, nice setting for a parkrun and most grassy course, good for recovery, taking it easy coming back from back to back hamstring injuries

The last month or so there has been a non parkrunner walking around with his dog amongst the runners during the pre briefing time and then walking the wrong way back along the course during the run in order to socialise the dog to big noisy groups of people.

Think that kind community involvement is almost better for parkrun than even having the guy turn up and volunteer. Shows what an accepted part of the weekly activities in the town that parkrun has become. There is more to parkrun than just a 5km timed run around a park.

Autopause? I know strava shows total time, not moving time so this was melting my head for a while as I was starting my watch early and letting it autopause until the start rather than starting it with the horn.

On Strava if you change the activity to being a "race" then it will use the elapsed time rather than moving time.

Garmin should show the elapsed time by default.

They will both show different numbers for the distance covered, even though it is all from the same GPS data, as they do their own smoothing calculations and will do different things around corners for instance which can effect the totals.

Lots of possible reasons - the most likely one being that you got a finish token that didn't correspond to your finish time as the timekeeper and finish token person had gone out of sync. Or someone could have gone ahead of you in the finish tunnel and got your finish token and therefore your time while you got theirs.
Volunteer in the timekeeping, finish token and results processing roles and you'll quickly get an idea of all the variables that come into play.
Good practice can minimise the issues but it's complex enough to try to teach a new volunteer in the five minutes you have to train them up before their first volunteering stint.

Not suggesting that you haven’t already done this, but if you volunteer for a few roles, a few weeks, especially funnel manager, timekeeper, barcodes, you won’t ask this question ever again.

Maybe someone didn't have a barcode or there was someone who didn't get scanned. If you have 5 or 10 ppl queuing up it can happen.

It's a parkrun, it's not something to get annoyed about. Its run by goodwill.

I'm looking to do a new one this week, preferably one that has no grass due to a slight ankle strain.

I'm thinking of doing Carlow, Tullow, Kilkenny or even Cootehill. Has anyone any recommendations?

Nope, but the plugin does apparently work with Firefox on mobile.
