So I played this for about 6h now.

I am not sure what to think of it, but it is clear as day, that not including NPCs, was stupidest thing ever.
6h in and I don't feel like I progressing at all. The clunkiness of this ancient engine does not help at all. Looks and runs on Xbox one x like ass. Title screen floating world looks so good, sharp, colourful, but in game it just looks so... Bland.
Will give it a bit more time and hopefully they will do "No man's sky" on it's ass and I will have it library already.
Oh yeah, the first person I met
, When I got out of vault, was like level 70 something. He waved at me and gave me 15 pure water and then buggered off. Really was nice feeling. He did not gave me all the **** to make me op at start and destroy sense of progression, but made my life a bit more convenient to start off. Good lad.

This happened to me when I first started. Some high level gave me stimpaks and pure water.

So, whenever I pass by Vault76 and I see a level1-3 player I drop a few stims and water

It plays like a single player game. The lack of NPCs is a disgrace but the setting and visuals are brilliant.

I don't really mind the lack of NPCs, they have done a good job of using holotapes / notes to give a background of the world / quests.

So far so good. I was expecting a buggy mess with low frame rates but its holding up well. The lack of NPCs makes it feel like an empty world, real lonely out there.
I wish there was companions like dogmeat

Whats the story with repairs in FO76? I see they have introduced repair kits now. Is there any other way to repair equipment ? Can i craft a kit?

You can not craft a kit but you can repair items at a workbench. Repair kit is just do you can repair without a workbench and collecting the junk required.

Thx T. Must be yet another glitch with 76 so, as I can no longer repair anything at the workbenches. Was able to until recent update.....around the time of introduction of repair kit.

Trial for this live on PS4 this week, download a huge ****ing file but need to sign into my Bethesda account first. Can't remember my password, go online, request new one but no email. Waiting waiting waiting, no email. Not even got to the menu yet and I already hate this game.

Nope nothing there other than hookers and dick pills. They do sound more fun than waiting for an email from Bethesda...

I really, really, really want to get this game as getting the platinum for Fallout 4 has me itching for more Fallout and currently the base game price for this is cheaper than the season pass for Fallout 4 lol
However, I feel it would be wise to wait until they've added NPCs to the game.
Has the game improved since launch at all?

    Yes, massively.

    And also, no....

Depends on whether the current patch has added new content, broken something that previously worked, fixed the last patch's problem or brought back a bug they'd previously removed...

Since they don't actually test anything before release it's a crapshoot whether a patch will improve or feck up the game.

There's been lots of good content added in the past year and generally stability is much better, though occasionally spotty. Most of the big game breaking bugs are things of the past (though some reappear occasionally when they patch them back in )
Also there are robot and mutant NPC's already (since day 1) - the big problem for me is that you have an "interact" button rather than an actual conversation with dialogue options, so the interactions are far too shallow.

Well had to check the date as fallout 76 is now getting a subscription service. You can have your own world for 100 a year. But you can invite your friend to your world.
How bad can a company do with a game.

That's incredible. Fallout 4 was a severe disappointment to me, I could tell that it was really designed to hawk microtransactions to you through the incredibly janky base building mechanic, but this is next level stuff.

Xbox Game Pass is 9.99 a month, and includes Fallout: New Vegas, and the Outer Worlds. Christ.

There was a great comment I saw somewhere saying something along the lines of 15 years ago I paid 10 a month to play a mmorpg with sever full of strangers and now I have to pay the same to do the opposite.

    PRIVATE WORLDS
This ****ty community has been begging for the ability to play alone in private worlds since before the launch of Fallout 76 (like what a Fallout game should be), and we begrudgingly announce that they are coming to the game with Fallout **** YOU 1st. If you’re a Fallout **** YOU 1st slave, how you use your private world is completely up to you, as long as we allow it: Invite up to seven of your non-existent friends at a time (eight total people per private world) to join you while we screw you over with our pay to win system, or play completely solo (we know you like it like that anyway). All gameplay remains the same from Adventure (cuckold) Mode and all characters entering the Fallout **** YOU 1st private worlds must be existing characters.

Only the dumbass who bought this membership who owns the private world is required to be a Fallout **** YOU 1st slave. Head into your private world, open your Social menu once you’re inside our buggy beta version of a game, and start inviting your "friends" to kick off the ass pounding. You can also create a squad outside of your private world and then switch to it to bring everyone along at once (because everyone will do that). Should the idiot owner of the private world leave, the world will still stay active as long as one other dumb**** player in the world is a Fallout **** YOU 1st slave.

Absolutely. The writing has been on the wall for FO76 since before it even came out.

Normally an Elder Scrolls game is a day one purchase for me, but I won't be getting it at all at this stage, bar through non-legal means.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,964 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

No surprise to anyone but the new paid for system is broken and buggy. Private servers aren't private and are recycled older servers that have already looted bodies in them and people's items are being eaten and disappearing into the void.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,434 ✭✭✭Homelander

I don't quite get the outrage as no-one is being forced to pay but I'm surprised at the move by Bethesda when they knew all the negative coverage it would bring.....over what is largely a dead horse anyway surely? Perhaps I am wrong. I'm one of those who bought it, played a few hours, and refunded it. It wasn't horrible, it just wasn't good and they went about it all wrong, squandering absolutely massive potential which is the most disappointing thing. I would consider it again when they add NPC's maybe.

Aah Fallout76, the game that simply keeps on giving. Hackers have now got a hack that lets them take EVERYTHING of you including items you've bought in the micro transaction store (i.e. not tradable skins etc.) and there's nothing you can do to stop it short of not playing... Live service at it's best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭Tubbs4

Only on pc so that is okay as cheat engine can be used in a combative game. What idiots they think the fan base are.
I was stupid enough to buy at launch and then went down in price two weeks later. Bugs on the final boss. Game crashing and then mirco transactions that are horrible.
I wont buy at launch or any of their online games again.
Hope more realise what a crap company they are and just know they can milk die hard fans. As people still paying 100 a year to play on reused servers with dead enemies.

Merry Christmas and play outer worlds as much better game.

Just purchased from ebay for £12.85 in prep for Wastelanders as no way in hell am I paying £36 for this.
I'm sure the expansion will come with a fair few bugs but it will likely be patched somewhat by the time I get to it. Hopefully.

    When is it out?

Does one have to pay a sub now to play on their servers or whats the craic?

Nope it's free to play. Sub is for your own private server which may have all enemies dead on as just a reused one.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,213 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

It's €40 on Steam. You'd have to be mental to pay that after the endless list of problems that the game has.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,304 ✭✭✭madcabbage

Had it from launcher back last year, played two days and gave up with all the bugs. Might give it a second chance though seeing as it’s on my steam account now.

You buy game then not pay a sub. You have the option to pay extra for private server which is included in the sub plus so credits for paint or other useful stuff in the game.

played the update today.... Still rubbish, played for a good few hours today, boring and still ****e, deleted, never to play again...........

It's free this weekend so just a heads up for any newcomers looking to give it a go: Sometimes you will find high level enemies in lower level areas. Apparently this is because a high level character was there before you and so the area scales to them...pretty dumb but then, Bethesda. To combat this, hop into another server and enemies should be at your level.

Or just play the game in front of you? A world in which everyting is of a similar level to your character would be pretty dumb (and boring) imo. Stumbling upon and having to deal with (or evade) higher level enemies is a fun part of a game.

Totally agree. It's why I loved in Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 randomly going for walks in far flung areas and encountering ridiculously tough enemies, the sense of satisfaction from killing them is immense.

I don't mind linear scaling in an traditional, equally linear FPS game, but not in an open world game.

New vegas got rid of that, which annoyed me, I remember coming across a death claw very early in the game near the mart place and it was chasing a kid, I love that kind of randomness.

So you think it's OK to spawn a bunch of level 68 super mutants in level a 10 quest line for a game that is already scaled higher than stated to accommodate a group of players? Except "the game in front of you" is clearly broken in this regard hence my tip. If it was working as intended you wouldn't be able to serve hop to reset it.

Totally agree with this. Currently level 34. Had missions to do that were level 24+. Could not do them. Some high levels players spawned in the area and enemies were level 68. I'd be wasting all my resources just to kill a couple. Would not be worth the gained XP.

Unfortunately he is talking about an enemy that is substantially higher level than you. Your guns, skills, resources would not be enough to kill or Evade. And you could be prevented from completing quests at your level. I do agree with certain parts of the map containing very powerful enemies like scorchBeasts. Just the way its done now, is abit unfair.

See, I don't see anything wrong with a challenge that can't be overcome occasionally.

Plenty of times I've encountered a much higher level mob of supers or ghouls while hopelessly underpowered. You either try and fight smart (sometimes works), run (usually works) or die (all too often). It's a game that isn't linear - you don't have to defeat the mob, there are plenty of other things to do for a while, and it's a game where dying isn't so terrible. My most memorable moments in game are all mostly revolving around the excitement to trying to deal with those "oh sh1t" encounters...

Personally I'd much rather that than have my hand held by a game mechanic which allows me to comfortably lay waste to all around me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,716 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

I dont mind the 'Oh sh1t' encounters, they are part of the game, such as running to a Deathclaw. But there needs to a mechanism to stop lvl 44 mole rats spawning when you are lvl 9.

Finally sorted it. I saw a new player spawned at Vault 76. So i stalked him until he went to the farm and barn just down from the vault and was ambushed by Scorched. I waited until he died, ran it, shot everyone and fixed him right up. Quest done, backpack is mine.
