Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dublin Bus 31 to Howth

    This Saturday morning 9th March, with a friend, tried to board the 31 bus to Howth from near Connolly station. It was completely full and there was no room for us and many people were also left behind at the stop. The next bus was not even on the display and it seemed there were already enough people waiting to fill that when it came.

    This must be a recurring problem at the weekends and will get worse as this was on a cold and wet day. Why don't DB put on extra buses on this route at weekends?

    A couple of things could have happened.

    * There was an event somewhere between Connolly and Howth that created one-off demand.
    * A previous bus didn't operate.
    * The bus was full of passengers for between Connolly and Howth. This is the most likely option.

    You don't mention the time, but you could have got a DART from Connolly.

    Well yes the bus was well late when it did leave. We were going to the summit as it happens but thanks I didn't think of the Dart. I am from out of town.

    Why don't DB put on extra buses on this route at weekends?

    It all boils down to costs and resources. DB have a roster, and struggle to make their targets running the scheduled buses on time. They work to the NTA agreed timetable and they are not just free to wily nily change the timetables due to demand.

    And as there is a finite no of buses and drivers then putting an extra bus on one route means less buses on another.

    so while it mike sound like a good idea, thats just not how public transport works. If the bus was full and the next one will be a while explore other transport possibilities.

    heres a tip if the bus stop is packed try getting another bus as far as it will go, along your route, once buses pass fairview they start to disgorge the customers and you can jump on further down the like, eg raheny etc.

    Because they don't have the buses or the manpower!
