Time for some respite care, Sardi, you need a break. I know it's hard to do and you will feel irrational guilt, but you can only do so much and everyone needs a break now and then.

He refuses, Leg. And he cant be forced to go. Besides, after the catastrophic effect Covid had in the Nursing Homes, I dont want him to go into one, even for a week.

Would he be open to someone coming in to give you a break?

Yes, but I simply can't afford that.

I know the nursing homes are a worry, my dad is in one and survived covid (when on paper he really shouldn't have). However, with everyone being vaccinated at this stage they are as safe as they can be.

You do need a break too. I know I wouldn't be able to do what you do at all. You will be no help to him though if you get sick from lack of self care.

I appreciate everyone's concern, I really do. But as he refuses there is nothing to be done. I'm so glad your Dad made it. He must be some fighter.

Ah even the Devil doesn't want him :D

I appreciate old people are stubborn feckers. He probably sees going in as no coming back out!

Well L'occitane have started their summer sale, I love their shower gel and moisturizer, treat yourself to something nice a little bit of pampering :)

I remember we were able to access a fairly good care package through the HSE for mammy. She had someone to help get her up in the morning, put her to bed, and we also had a wonderful woman from the Alzheimers Society to just sit with her for a few hours. All of that was free. Like you there was no way we could have paid for private care.
You should look in to Sardicat.

Yeah, that sounds good. I'm just out of the shower and my hair smells divine and is silky soft. Because my hair is so thick I need to use two boxes of colour so I get two of those lovely little conditioners and I still have some left. It's amazing how little things like that can lift your spirits, isn't it?

I cancelled home help during Covid due to the way they (not the carers, they were mostly amaxing) mismanaged PPE and self isolation of staff who had been in contact with infected people or even awaiting test results (they were made to go on working without PPE under those circumstsnces!) I will have absolutely nothing to do with that service again. I may look into the Alzheimer's Society suggestion. The Day Centre is reopening on the 26th (woo hooo!) And he's willing to attend more than once a week once they can facilitate that, so a bit of me time is in the near horizon.

If some remember, I mentioned my cousin having a stoke a few months back... anyways..long story short..he had 2 more strokes, and while not vegetative...he's not going to make a recovery.
A local care home quoted €1500 per week ..and then said no as they couldn't guarantee he'd get the specialist care he'd need.
I'm not sure I'm the greatest fans of care homes tbh

Relaxing eating popcorn and watching a VERY good movie called Short Term 12. I would highly recommend it if anyone's looking for one to watch. Really is well worth a gander.

You know it's a good movie when you pause it for a bathroom break and see there's only X amount of minutes left and you think Noooo!!!

I'm gonna do a vegetarian stir fry with noodles and my own sesame sauce after this followed by another movie and a magnum and possibly 2 nice Estrellas.

As you can see I'm all about watching my beautiful slim figure today  :D

Oh fookin hell yeah I have scots clan and shortbread biscuits too. I was in a very Scottish mood in Supervalu apparently. I wonder is Braveheart on anywhere.... :pac:

Not long back from giving Grumpy a spin in his wheelchair followed by a short walk. He can walk but A) he's still quite weak from the UTI and B) he cant walk any reasonable distance without putting pressure on that damned hernia. It worked a treat, we were able to stay out for nearly an hour. I sat for a bit and we just enjoyed being outside and I ousted him from his chair near the end and got him walking a short distance, so a bit of exercise for him as well. Cratur kept asking to swap places and let him wheel me to give me a rest!

Time to peel a few shpuds.

Re your toilet dilemma, Sardi. Could you put a little bin beside his bed and in the bathroom and insist he puts his tissues in there if you explain about the constant blockages.
Either that or else don't leave a roll of toilet roll by his bed, just leave a few pieces, enough for him to blow his nose during the night.

To thine own self be true

Thanks, the toilet roll at night isn't for his nose though!

Dinner for the girls done. Friday night Pizza! I'm sitting on my pallet bench sipping a beer. The sun is trying to get through the bit of cloud. The cat is sitting beside me.

She's moved to a sun lounger. Not happy about the photo as I woke her up and my focus is out as I was on manual.

She's adorable, I love it when they tuck all their limbs in so they look like furry pellets with faces and pointy ears.

Mixed day, was very busy wrapping things up for the week this morning and early afternoon and, given my sleep was absolutely dreadful last night, knocked off at 3pm and headed for my leaba.

Got a few hours sleep and looking forward to the weekend, taking it easy. :)

What time is it? Time for a drink or 2!

That was a long week, I'm glad to see the back of it.

Bit of excitement in Tralee today, young fella having a bad day decided to pull a sword and threaten people around the house area.
To give them their due....the Gardai talked him down within an hour....could have ended very differently

    I'd say that's a fairly safe guess
