I'm having to split my collection in two also. I'm trying to find what looks like a sort of natural endpoint in the mural to do it

With regards to the DC collection, I can see Fysh's point but I think maybe the problem would be that, especially in recent years, a wider range of Marvel characters have become popular than DC so it would limit it a bit on the DC side. Although if they go ahead with doing one I'ld rather they wait till this one is over for financial reasons :P

I believe the most up to date story in the Marvel one will be Siege which is pretty cool though I imagine they might condense it

The new marvel collection is still in the "test area" we're certain places in UK have it on sale to see if it's a success before a national release.

As for DC I'm guessing there is a right issues regard re printing material as DC have never had a footload in the weekly/monthly market like Marvel had.

I think I may split mine between Iron Man and Logan...seems the most natural point to do it without ruining it

Apologies for dropping the DC bomb and then seemingly running away from the conversation, I was in the get-it-while-it-lasts-sunshine.

As outlined above I now see that a DC collection would work.
I collected a series of those UK Batman reprints a few years ago (Batman Legends I think it was called). Over the course of a year they reprinted the War Games storyline along with back-ups of Death in the Family and Year One, it made for a great year of reading.

Tbh the majority of DC trades I own are Batman... some Starlin JLA and 4-5 Supes.

Yeah I've been keeping up with the collection... not so much the reading which is quite stupid of me. I'd stop, but I hate in-complete collections.

Yeah I'm still collecting too. Still have a couple of back issues to pick up but I have the rest up to and including fantastic four. Good to hear that that one is a good read. Would have never even crossed my mind to buy a FF before this, but I'll give it a go! Looking forward to the second parts of Secrets Wars and Punisher in particular (In a real Punisher mood at the minute, reread Circle of Blood arc recently).

Still collecting myself. Have all the issues up to FF, had to stop coz need some extra cash for holidays but will pick up once back. Have loads to read inc. Spidey blue/unlimited, the last Capt one, Planet Hulk Pt2, Iron-Man Deamons, FF (surprised this is the first FF in collection) and a couple of others.

Has anyone been pleasantly surprised with a book so far? I thought Thor Reborn was a blast and funny to boot which I personally was surprised with. :)

The two Thor books really impressed me. Didn't think I would like it for some reason but thought they were great!
Was looking forward to Punisher and it was even better than I thought it would be.
Daredevil also surpassed expectation for me.
Same here, as it is spending €30 a month on the current collection is a bit annoying. I don't think I'd go for the other collection.

One of the lads in the Big Bang told me about the collection and said like above there would be test area to see how it goes. A quick search on ebay brought up no results for me
http://www.mightiestcollection.com/ would like to collect but be far too much each month

RE: Spine picture, I have a place which (should) hold the entire collection. Had it on a smaller cabinet but they slipped and fell :( need to get some bookends like the ones here http://www.graphicnovelcollection.com/gifts.html (or the link on the other collection) but dont want to subscribe to the websites. Again ebay results are no good for me. Anyone know where I could pick some up?

    :pac:

According to the wikipedia page for this collection some of the final books have been changed.

    Looks like it's out with:

    Ghost Rider: Road to Damnation
    Siege
    Son of M

    and in with:

    Marvel Origins: The 60s
(Fantastic Four #1, Amazing Fantasy #15, Incredible Hulk #1, Daredevil #1, Tales of Suspense #39, Uncanny X-Men #1, Avengers #1, Avengers #4, Tales to Astonish #27, and Tales to Astonish #44)
    Uncanny X-Men: Second Genesis
    Venom #1 - 5

Doctor Strange: The Oath is listed as well but I can't recall of that was originally part of it or not.

If this turns out to be true then I will be very happy, particularly with the "Marvel Origins: The 60s" book, a collection such as this really does need to include something like that.

theyre still doing the original list, they other books are a second series that they are planning to release.the oath wa originally on the list.

Damn, don't think I can handle another series.
€15x another 60 books = I do not want to know... we'll I do want to but can't commit so much anymore.

The Oath sounds like a good read, can't say I'm too interested in Ghost Rider though.

It doesn't look like that from the wiki? It just seems like they added in those as part of the overall series pushing the release of the final ones (Ghost Rider etc) out to end of May. I too am very happy they are being included. Love this series. Reading Daredevil Born again at the minute and its fantastic.

anyone can change a wkik page so dontbe believing it.they publicied that the books were from the 80's to present when it started so that would be pointless if they did avengers from the 60's

  • Registered Users Posts: 75 ✭✭statomosh

the wiki page also mentions the new series that will be starting.

I don't see it mentioned as a follow on series on there? Maybe I'm blind!? I know anyone can change it but its been very accurate to date.

    The New Remaining List
    52: FF: The end
    53: Cap Britain
    54: Wolverine
    55: Marvel Origins: The 60's
    56: Secret Invasion
    57: Uncanny Xmen
    58: Doc Strange
    59: Thunderbolts
    60: Venom
    ??: Ghost Rider
    ??: Son of M
    ??: Siege

It looks like they are officially releasing that mightiest hero's thing next year from that. That's about it.

Anyway as I said its only a good thing if they these new books are released as part of this current series

strangely the publishers site has not changed it:

Still has Ghost Rider, Son of M and Siege in there

they were always numbered in the order they were originally released.demon in a bottle is #1 being the oldest so it would be odd to stick a book from in 60's in with the more recent ones.

Could possibly do a "0" issue but the rest would be strange.

Well only 10 left to go! Picked up Cap Britain a few days ago. I didnt think I'd get it so smart in the shops considering it had a marked release date of Christmas day! Apart from the new additions like marvel in the 60's etc (which I now reckon are going to be simply special editions to the main series) are there are any gems left? Old man Logan possibly or Siege? Hope everyone here is still collecting. Nice to hear the stories and opinions of fellow collectors and appreciators! :D

Also picked up the first edition of mightiest heros as well. Reckon I'll only get the AAA characters if and when I see them, Spiderman, Ironman, Wolverine etc.

Had to give up after holidays in the summer due to money issues. Would like to start this new one and the chess collection but alas money is tight.
Picked up a few issues since the first FF one, have Weapon X here so will start that tonight.
Any gems between the first FF one and now I should try to get??

2nd parts of Secret wars and Punisher, 1602, and Daredevil: Guardian Devil would be my choices from that point on.

I know that Wikipedia is not the most reliable source but check out the book list now:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Official_Marvel_Graphic_Novel_Collection

Another 20 or so titles have been added to the current list?

Also I see that "Marvel Origins: The 60s" is out today, has anyone seen that yet?

They're adding 20- 30 books (I imagine it's 30) that make up a different picture when put together, which I guess explains the inclusion of stuff like Agent Venom etc. I imagine it comes down to two things - greed on the part of the reprinters and the fact that Marvel NOW was such a success that the might end up using some of those stories

The Origins one was released this week. It collects the origin stories for the more famous (and ovie friendly) Marvel heroes (Spidey, Cap, Iron Man, Ant-Man etc). The spine also has a small bit of text over the thumbnail which says "Classic 1"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭James Howlett

Having a look at the list I'd be interested in

Fantastic Four: The Coming of Galactus
    Avengers: Birth of Ultron
    Avengers: The Children's Crusade
The Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Man No More
    The Mighty Thor: Ragnarok
    The Thanos Imperative

But I don't know about this at all. It was such a heavy original commitment I don't think I can follow up with any additions.

I did pick up the first part of the Marvel's Mightiest Heroes, simply because of the price. From the looks of things they have the right idea with this series; original appearance and a selected/ iconic stort-arc. For people starting to get into the comics from the movies this series is fantastic but it won't be for my wallet :(

    What about you gusy here?
Going to continue with the "classic" additions to the original list and/ or the Marvel's Mightiest Heroes collection?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,234 ✭✭✭Thwip!

I havent started the new collection because I don't need another one, but I'll finish out the other one even though...

    30 issues = 60 weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭ripperman

Its very confusing whats happening to it now?

Had no idea the classic issue was released yesterday?

Also assumed the 2nd issue of Heroes was last week!?

So are the classic issues considered part of the originals now? Is it going to be new spine art on these?

yea a bit of an overload at the moment, picked up ...Heroes #1 coz of the price but just too much stuff going on at the moment

Yeah I read that on the wiki too. I dont think they were ever released in Ireland. Never seen them anywhere, even on ebay listings.

    Regarding the now convoluted collection...
I asked in my local Easons (where they have got in every issue to date) about The Marvel Origins issue. They didnt have it and had not heard anything about it, so I just ordered it on ebay.

The next regular issue is marked as Feb 5th!?

Also picked up 2nd issue of Heroes.

I'm really not sure if I can commit to the classics line. Im a bit annoyed its been crowbarred into the regular run as regards release schedule (Technically the Marvel origins issue is Vol 55.)

I suppose as long as I can complete the orginal 60 then I'm happy enough. I bloody know the collector in me will win out in the end though! :D

Quite annoyed that my local comic shop charged me 14.99 for the Spiderman HC book. Really disappointed that they'd overcharge by a fiver, especially when you consider that I'm in there twice a week picking up books

I was grabbing a few other things and it wasn't till I got home that I realised that I'd paid 14.99 for the Spiderman HC. Really annoyed and going to be going back in during the week and calling them on it. I know that I can get books cheaper on amazon but I like to support my local store but this is one of those things that would put me off using them.

Only thinking about it now and remembered that all the copies of the Spider-Man HC were missing the backing board where the price shown. I assume they tore them off so that people wouldn't realise that they were getting ripped off.

Nope, all LCS got them that way. It's how that issue was supplied to their suppliers from Hachette Partworks. Cardboarded ones seem to only have been sent to Newsagents.

My local Eason's had Marvel Origins The 60s for me to collect. I guess Secret Invasion will be out on 5th february so. Also I noticed the second issue of the other collection and it was €10 (ish, I just checked to see if it was full price, which it was not)

Yeah my local one had a lot of them in the last day! Yup looks like its the 5th alright for next issue. Wiki has changed again with dates for the remaining original line up. The rest of the books (Past the orginal 60) are now classified as listed on amazon but unconfirmed.

Picked up Spiderman from heroes line and can confirm as well that its 10 something euro. Wolverine out this week (according to wiki)

So going back to that Wikipedia article - can anyone please confirm or deny whether the Irish version of "Captain America - Winter Soldier" covers issues 1-7? The UK version definitely covers issues 8-9 & 11-14, but it's also true that the German version covers issues 1-7. The collector in me would love to find an English version of that (even though I can read German!), but I don't want to go on a wild goose chase if one was never actually issued!

I'll check when I get home but I'm quite sure that the book I received did not cover issues 1 through 7.

Our version is the UK version so it covers 8-9 & 11-14 like you said but not 1-7.

Thanks very much for your help! I can stop trawling ebay now!

Makes you wonder where the original Wikipedia information came from...

so it looks like the classic run will be another 60 books. 120 in total. frustrating to say the least.

How is it frustrating? If people are enjoying the books then what's the problem?

I started getting the books recently when I heard they were starting to do the classic stuff. I'm not a big fan (understatement) of the Bendis/Loeb/Millar modern era of Marvel stuff but the lineup for the classic books is fantastic.

And just a small correction, afaik there are 40 classic books so 20 of the 60 new ones are modern stuff.

So what is being delivered at the moment? Number/title wise. Was planning on only getting the first 60, thing is these are getting delivered somewhere else so have no idea what the current title is.

I'm getting the Marvels Mightiest Heroes series (the red books) in the local newsagent and the latest issue was number 20 and featured the Falcon with 70's Captain America stories and his 1980's mini-series.

I'm getting the Ultimate Graphic Novel collection (the black books) via subscription so I think I'm a few issues behind what the newsagent gets. The last books I got were a couple of weeks ago, I got numbers 68 and 69. Issue 69 was numbered 65 in the series and featured the Daredevil story "Shadowland" written by Andy Diggle, it was pretty decent too.

Issue 68 was numbered Classic III which is where things get a bit complicated. The classic stories seem to be pre-1975 stuff and get roman numerals rather than numbers. 68 was a collection of Stan Lee/Steve Ditko Doctor Strange stories, gotta say Ditko's art is really nice.

This is just after getting a rebooting of the initial series.

Did anyone get to complete the collection? I am about 10/12 issues away after scouring ebay the last few months (have spent nearly €200 this year alone  :( ) the ones I need are near the tail end of the series so it'll be well over a year before they come around again.

Inadvertently started the other collections as it was better value to get a few books with the shipping from English sellers.

This collection is the original one and a great jumping on spot for anyone starting off with Marvel or like myself at the time getting back in after years out.

There was also another 60 book collection with the continuation of the numbers, a classic collection using roman numerals and a character one (the red books) all with their own subscriptions. Think the first one took off well then they overloaded us with them.

Subscription is €14.99 per regular issue but think Big Bang were selling for ~€13 iirc. Same gifts as last time.

I still have most my collection in the original plastic but want to get through them soon enough.

Finished the original run when it first came out. I definitely liked the titles they were looking to, and have now, put out out through the extended line but I just couldn't justify the money on 60 more when I had read so few of the original 60 at that stage. Still, I think it's a great collection, especially for anyone of the age of wanting to start looking into comics.
