Just had the XL arrive. Being a shambles of a cook I thought I’d get it to help me give a dig out with the cooking now baby #3 has arrived. Was greeted by “this looks like it’ll be another gimmick that’ll be packed away in a few weeks”....so help me out, what’s the best tips and things to reference for getting started?

yes there is very little difference in size between XL and XXL, you have to look towards the US models, some have rotisseries.

It's only weird because he used his Philips Airfryer to cook it, and not his supr-duper and far superior oven!

I have had my phillips XL air fryer for nearly a year now i think it is, and still use it nearly every day, not so much for chips, we use frozen chips, and its ok for them if you like ketchup, because they are a bit drier than an ordinary chip fryer, but for everything else, steak, sausages, even fried eggs in a little pizza type dish i bought seperately, are fantastic, could not do without it at this stage, it is on a par with a panasonic breadmaker i bought years ago, fantastic tasting bread, it went in the cupboard for a few months, but i am back to using it again. A bit pricier than others, but well worth it, just follow the instructions to a T and a great loaf every time.

These are the best chips Ive ever had out of the Airfryer, the ones I use for fish and chips. I dont really bother with chips anymore though, not worth it. I do any meat in the Airfryer and throw a few fresh vegetables into the steamer, easiest dinners you can cook, and the nicest.

I just roll oven chips in veg oil or animal fat, before and half way through cooking.

For some reason the makers seem to presume the vast majority want oven chips to be a low fat version.

McCains home fries are 4% fat as frozen. But they also have "simply gorgeous" chips which are 12.3% fat (as frozen), 11% beef dripping. Most are 3-6%.

The magazine has the smaller 2.3ltr one for €60 so I'm not sure if they'll have both or just one of them.

I've never used a Tower one but I've seen it and the basket looks like it might be easier to clean - seems to be a sheet of metal with holes in it rather than a mesh (in the Philips ones). Maybe someone else can confirm?

It has the exact same non stick basket as the Silvercrest models that Lidl sells. My experience was that the non stick surface failed despite being cared for as per the instruction book after only one month, though I understand that is not the norm. I'd personally prefer the more fiddly but better quality stainless steel mesh of the Philips.

Saw the Tower one in home store and more. Chintzy as ****.

Might as well spend 50 instead of 150 for worthless tat.

    A weird character indeed.

I love my Airfryer. I said on this thread that it could be the best purchase i've ever made and I still feel that way. Mine cost me £75 or something. For the amount of use i've gotten from it, iI could've paid 10 times that and it would still have been value for money.

My regular sized air fryer died yesterday after giving the beast a thorough clean it won’t turn in sadly, when I plug it in the lights flash and that’s it.
Ordered the xl from amazon for €157 which isn’t as cheap as it was last week but I won’t complain.

    How long you have it?

Ramekin coated with spray oil or butter and filled with mini omelettes or just a regular egg with a couple of slices of bacon alongside for an easy breakfast.
Full chicken under 1kg in my regular one cooked at 185* we’re nicely cooked after 50 minutes
1kg joints of smoked or unsmoked bacon same temp for roughly the same length of time, perfect for slicing for sandwhiches works out cheaper and much better than packet or deli ham
Sirloin and fillet steak come out very well, I was cooking for a few minutes on 170* and then 200* depending on the size and how you like steak.
Chips roast potatoes and jacket potatoes are great, i normally steam for a while then pat dry and use a spray oil (not on the jacket) before cooking.
Pork and lamb chops are divine
Homemade breaded chicken fillets and tenders come out well
Salmon fillets also come out nice but make a little tray from foil to keep the juices from dripping down
It’s all trial and error really and took me a while to get adventurous with it, I initially bought it just for healthy chips
Have fun and don’t be shy to try new things

Thanks for that I'll be trying either lamb chops or rack of lamb tomorrow

Agreed, only thing is you have to wash after every use, otherwise the basket will go to sh Ask me how I know!
In relation to build quality, I think the 9230 is more robust. That said, both together are superb. 2yrs down the road, both used every day, and still going strong. Oven is redundant.

Aldi kitchen degreaser in orange spray bottle does a great job keeping it clean.

I use a piece of tinfoil in the base every time with the corners folded in to help save on amount of cleaning but yeah it's vital to clean the basket and the sooner after use the better.

It's no big deal though, just put it in the dishwasher after a quick scrub.

An awful lot easier and more pleasant than having to clean a frying pan.

Used dealz cheap oven cleaner which comes with a bag....after two years of rigorous use.

Removed basket net and also cleaned the bucket...results attached.

Now use a tin foil at the bottom.

that is a great price. I was saying if mine broke I would get that as a replacement. I saw lots of posters on US sites had them and are happy with them.

A large one would allow me do larger whole chickens, and bigger pizzas, and I guess if doing small amounts of chips they could be spaced out more and not require shaking, or less shaking.

I know it goes against the grain of BA but..... for those who have baskets which are beyond saving, you could get the replacements directly from the supplier. Not dirt cheap, but for something that many will use every day, not a bank breaker either.

    The XL is £27.99
    The standard is £18.49

    (plus shipping also)
