Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Off topic, but how cushy would it be to have a job with those overpaid boneheads in Comreg? Can you imagine how little work they do all day

I don't even have to imagine, it's painfully obvious.
Paid for 2 months so far, started it in September?

They're not going to let you go easily, but it should be possible. Cite the fact that they never informed you that they are actively censoring Internet access, and that this is something you did not sign up to.

the only thing taking this approach is that you wont likely get a contract with them again ,

but they shouldnt be allowed to do that, they changed the terms of contract in the first place. so you should be allowed out of contract without penalty. but this is Ireland.

    Hi All,
I have just found out today that O2 are blocking websites , primarily filesharing sites like Rapidshare, Hotfile and the one that really irks me, Megavideo.

The whole censorship really F~~ks me off and i believe they are in breech of contract to start with. Anyway i would quit them immediately but as i am out in the country i have absolutely no other internet service available.

    My question.
I have heard that it is possible to circumvent these blocks by changing the DNS settings on your Modem.

Can someone please provide a guide on how to change the DNS settings which i can take across and post on the O2 forum just to show them how pathetic they are.

I am using the Hawai Dongle modem if that means anything.
    Cheers

Seeing you are out of the country.. have you bought international traffic? Your traffic quota in Ireland does not apply abroad.

Just a heads up, sorry I can't help with the DNS issue.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,382 ✭✭✭O2_Daryll

We are aware that Megavideo was blocked recently. It has been appealed and should be restored soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

He actually said he is out in the country, so his internet options are limited.

Yes, Appealed, well it really needs to be sorted out yesterday!

I have just published my feelings on the O2 forum regarding this matter.

I host how to guides and videos on Megavideo, 100% ipod repair stuff that relates to my website. not child porn

I rely on those files to be accessable to my customers and now anyone with an O2 connection can't access them! That's loss of income in my books and I have a meeting with my solicitor in the new year to discuss if I have a claim against O2 for not warning me in advance that they would censor my web access and block my business to customers.

It's like having the O2 site blocked because it mentions child pornography in its text somewhere, that's how misplaced this is.

O2 continue to surpass themselves! Now they've gone and blocked megavideo! They truly are a bunch of idiots!

    Threads merged.

This is nothing new, O2 have been at this for months now. It's a breech of your contract, and should not be allowed to continue. Read the start of this thread.

    Have you tried OpenDNS?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,175 ✭✭✭Melia

I haven't! Not quite sure where to start but I'm on the OpenDNS site and I'll figure it out. Thanks!

EDIT: Got it working! Thanks again.

did the openDNS thing but im still blocked from megavideo. why did they suddenly decide to block it now, it was working fine last week.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Your not using Open DNS. Megavideo is not blocked for me and I am using Open DNS on o2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,108 ✭✭✭johnnysmack

never mind, it took a while for the DNS to kick in. working fine now. thanks.

Create a new profile and copy over the details.

The profile used by the O2 connection software. It'll be in one of the drop down menus, under connection settings.

They are the settings that are greyed out, connected or not. Maybe my version is a later one. (V 11.302.09.01.116)

You need to create a new one, as Bond-007 said.

Got my bill for cancellation this morning, should I pay?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

    How much is it for?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,713 ✭✭✭✭jor el

I got a final bill too, it included a charge of around €10 for "Other charges" whatever the hell that is. I emailed them, once again, to tell them why I wasn't paying it. Got a letter from a debt collection agency 2 weeks ago, which will also be ignored.

Reports that o2 is blocking popular image hosting site imgur.com

http://tinyurl.com/3yc6p6n (tiny url to avoid profanity)

Well done o2 you truly are idiots.

As an o2 customer for 11 years, I speak from experience when I say that o2 have been going downhill over the past few years, and I could no longer recommend them.

    Avoid o2 if you can.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭doyler442

What the hell is this about? How have they blocked imgur? Is this some kind of mistake, as in they are likely to rectify it any time soon?

As a user of such a site I will quickly be cancelling my O2 account if they continue this crap.

Looks like they might be doing something but this still isn't good enough:

Just change your DNS to Open DNS and it won't matter what o2 do.

While that is true, they shouldn't have this policy of blocking sites at random in the first place.

I've reconsidered getting an o2 broadband dongle because of this ham fisted blocking.

Further more I will be actively encouraging anyone that will listen to avoid o2 like the plague.

That's not possible on a lot of mobile handsets, some of which are affected by the block on imgur. (such as mine)

Edit: Just for information, all censored hostnames have records pointing to 62.40.38.145

On the positive side, this has created a huge ****storm

Making its way up now, I wonder if any MSM will pick this up in the US?
    http://www.mcvuk.com/news/39839/O2-Ireland-begins-web-censoring

I'd be surprised if don't have a serious look at the way they do this from now, based on the amount of negative attention they are getting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

    They don't care.

They did not give a stuff when I raised the issue 10 months ago. Their basic response was we can do as we please and STFU, go away.

If you are a bill pay customer, and o2 won't fix this for you, I'd say you have grounds to terminate your contract without penalty. Especially if you have an iPhone or other smart phone with them, where one of the primary purposes of the phone is to access the internet. Unless o2 can fix it of course.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

They can fix it but o2 choose to rely on the word of Ned Flanders and the other outraged folks at The Internet Watch Foundation, who is not a police or other governmental body.

I have solved the problem by bypassing their DNS server, but I do see peoples points. It is the principle of the matter. Last time I checked this was not China.

even if you are on bill pay they will not let you out of contract ive seen people on the o2 forums trying to do so and o2 would not give into them .so pre pay or bill it doesnt matter they simply will not let anyone out of contract i know its bull but thats whats happening at 02 at the moment

As I said in this post, due to O2's unjustifiable actions I'll begin looking into Vodafones/Meteor/3's offerings as I cannot in good conscience pay money to a company whos censoring my internet access. I will also be encouraging everyone I know on the O2 network to do the same as this is just not on. Censorship has no place in the civilized world and O2 are a disgrace for enacting it.

They didn't let me out either, I just stopped paying them. They won't let it go to court, because they'd have to explain why a change to the contract is not, in their view, a change to the contract.

Doesn't matter, just call your bank and cancel the direct debit. It's like you bought a phone and you can't call some of your friends numbers, and o2 won't fix it. You bought the phone to make phone calls after all.

Yes. I contacted Daryll and he sorted it.

Still no admission of this being a change to the contract from O2 though.

I use the reddit app on HTC Desire and thanks to the imgur blocking, its now useless.
How do I change the DNS on my mobile phone? anyone?
