I've no personal experience but a recent post suggests that you might be wrong. Don't think Labour has a chicken and chips culture.

I thought yesterday's Two Trots and a Junior Minister show was one of the worst ever and that is saying something. Brid Smith attempting to make political capital out of the HSE ransomware attack shows just how devoid of any constructive thought that woman is. She is a political black hole of negativity. And then Eoin O'Brin and Colm Brophy talking and shouting over each other. It was like listening to two squabbling toddlers in the back of a car.

Katie does a good job on the Late Debate where we have larger panels of serious top level politicians so clearly it is the two Trots and a Junior Minister format of the saturday show that is the problem now. They need to restore some sort of balance on the panels or cancel it.

Hannon is very poor, for me, she is biased against the Establishment , doesn’t challenge the Trotters, allows them to pump out populist bull, which doesn’t cut the mustard.

Poor diction, stop start delivery, not in control , no presence.

Hard to justify why she is still there, in my opinion.

It's quite irksome when guests are shouting over each other. The same used to happen when Cormac hosted the show.

I think some muting of mics would go a long way.

Correct and right…. Can I refer again to Today on BBC R4.

They don’t allow this kind of chaos, and regarding timekeeping, anyone who tries to ‘motormouth’ their way through the time constraints is efficiently ‘wound down’
without any platitudes.

The real fault of course is with the presenter and producer who lets this garbage happen and hasn’t the chutzpah to intervene.

Hannon, it seems to me , would rather let the Govt get a shoeing rather than moderate and control the show, as will always happen when it’s 4 against 1.

Can’t understand why RTE management haven’t acted to ensure professional performance in these programmes.

Yes you are correct there, in fairness.

In a way it’s the line up which causes the problem, usually four against one.

I’d blame the producer for that and Hannon for constantly allowing the discussion to degenerate into a shouting match which is totally unintelligible .

I wouldn't blame Katie for the behaviour of her guests (I think she does a great job on the show). The buck stops here with RTE themselves. If people are contacting them to let them know how annoying it is, then they really should act on it.

All discussion radio has turned into a sort of boxing match, the presenter will say we have diddley dum expert/ commentator/politician and on the other side we have dum diddley expert/ commentator/ politician, now fight it our.

generally, the narrative is right v left, employer v employee, public service v the rest, conservative v liberal and so on.

What annoys me is the pretence it's journalism when clearly it's not, it is entertainment discussed as journalism. I turn off its two commentators politicians fighting it, out but will listen if its an explanation of the issue

I don't think anyone is going to start a letter-writing campaign though. I've heard broadcasters — Claire Byrne comes to mind — address texters' frustrations. They know it's an issue.

Byrne has in the past cut people's mics off for talking over one another. It should happen more often. The disruption tends not go happen with Pat Kenny, it always happened with Sean O'Rourke. That’s the problem, they always get two sides on and all you get is mud slinging. Getting “experts” on, even ones with opposing views, leads to more discussion and less finger pointing.

Those are fair points. I wouldn't blame the production team either btw. I think the way to go is a blanket decision from the upper echelons RTE that, no matter what the show, if the guests start behaving like a pair of drunks squaring up to each other outside the chippy at 3am, then the mics go off. Period. No matter what the show.

Once everybody starting singing off the same hymn sheet, I think there would be a significant improvement.

It would be nice if elected representatives could behave, but as things are likely to get more polarised in the years to come, it might be best for RTE to lay down the law sooner rather than later.

They are in competition with Newstalk for ratings and Newstalk whip up the drama so RTE is dragged along, Kieran Cuddihy does it quite well ,enough knowing cynicism along with giving them enough rope to hang themselfs and cause a bit of row before cutting them.

I would say a contract is very linked to listeners on Newstalk so that shapes content.

With the vaccination roll-out Covid is not hospitalising people in any great numbers. However, it is inevitable that with any substantial rise in cases there is going to be a modest rise in hospitalisation with potentially dire consequences on services stretched by the cyber-catastrophe.

I had a weird nightmare last night which seems to have been inspired by this, where I was working (I think) as a hospital porter. I was wheeling lots of patients to an operating theatre run by a vet (inspired by watching DSPCA!) and bits (limbs etc) of them kept falling off on the way, I was stressing trying to pick them up, by they couldn't be reassembled by the surgeon/vet as the parts didn't match up due to lack of decryption key. The surgeon and staff were laughing at me for even thinking anything could be done and I was tearing strips off them for their attitude!

No way will we have international tourism in any meaningful way this year. And I agree 100%, I know many in the industry, most not even bothering to reopen and focusing on 2022.

Does any think these travel certs will work, I just can't see it, EU countries can barely agree with legislation, let alone this concept, we are still seeing EU countries go it alone, restricting travel and then there's the type of tests that will be acceptable.
