I’m sick in bed, very short attention span and stamina.
So watching a fair bit of TV, mostly cookery, home improvements and other stuff that just keeps my brain ticking over.
I was wondering who would you say is the most boring chef with their own program on tv at the moment.

I wouldnt know, I change the channel or do something else if a chef is boring

Nigel Slater. Very slow talker, talks waffle which bears no connection to the food he is cooking.

Old fat tongue Jamie Oliver. Never could stand the prick.

Most of the TV chefs are a pain in the hole. The egos of some of them would light up a city if you could harness them to the grid.

Watching other people cook, but you don't get to taste it, how is that entertainment?

I remember being forced to watch some series on Netflix, I think it was called The "Art" of Food or something. It had already gotten off to a bad start with a title like that, but sweet baby jesus, I have never been more bored in my life. And I've seen Waiting for Godot. Just wanted to end it all there and then.

I don't cook beyond the absolute basics (probably not even reaching basic standards for most people) and only for myself, yet I love cooking shows. No idea why as I wouldn't eat half what they cook either. I also love reading the food posts here on boards fir some weird reason.

For me the two tv "chefs" I always switch off are Rachel Allen and Nigella.

Yes, It's so contrived. She should be ashamed of herself sounding like that at her age.

Youtube is far better for cooking shows. Lots of good stuff, wouldn't bother with a tv cooking show anymore unless its something like the bakeoff

Reminds me that he got roasted for his Spanish paella and African dishes on his YouTube channel. People from those countries slated him saying it was nothing like what they should be. I guess to give an example it would be like adding curry powder to a stew and calling it an Irish stew. No Jamie, it isn't haha.

Nigella is definitely a "turn on", but the way her program uses soft focus is annoying. As if she needs to be made more sexy.

I can't stand Rachel Allen's bizarre accent. Jamie Oliver includes too much unnecessary "messing" - just cook the bloody stuff. Rick Stein wasn't bad, and there was always the possibility of a bit of crankiness to spice things up.

I enjoy Masterchef, though, and while Greg Wallace (not a chef, I know) wouldn't be top of my list of people to go for a pint with, I don't get the hate for him that seems to be widespread. John Torode has really bad lockdown hair this year. :D

I was supposed to go see Waiting for Godot, it was the Sunday matinee, but they cancelled it because of a no-show, so I went to mass instead.

They should commission a show where they follow a bunch of uni students cooking exploits for a month and then serve it up to Michelin star chefs.

hahaha having tried once to watch it on tv with a couple of luvvie actors hamming it up, your comment tickled me.

I think I know the series you suffered through. Daughter tried to get me to watch it. I think the highlights did for me in the intro.

Almost all of them. All these shows are done by numbers at this stage and are entirely fake.

The original travel chefs still remain the only real deal.

Don’t think so, but it could be as he’s not hugely unlike him so it could be years ago.

I saw him a good bit on the Today Show and wouldn’t be gone on him at all.

He's maybe missing a bit of oomph to stand out given the number of different chefs that are out there but his cook-in series features easily do-able dishes at home so I'll be watching the new episodes.

I'd probably pick Tom Kerridge or John Torode.

Really? Is he the guy with a south midlands accent or am I thinking of Kevin Rudd? Midlands man is the chap who gives cooking tips on the radio sometimes, on Today with Claire Byrne. I like him.

It's strange, every chef I've met in real life (just ordinary, anonymous chefs, now) are lovely. But I've worked in kitchens during college and did a few cookery courses, and to a man, those ones were all arseholes. I suppose they work under such pressure that anyone would be a dick in their shoes. In one place I worked in the UK, the restaurant owner was afraid of her chef. He was so good he was apparently bullying his own boss. Dreadful atmosphere in some of those kitchens. It gets a bit out of hand tbh, in my limited experience.

All TV chefs are boring. The preponderance of cookery programmes on TV these days must surely be a key signifier of late stage capitalism.

A feature of ancient Rome in its death throes, was the snob value of having a celebrity chef come over and prepare a lavish meal for one's guests. Pig's labia was deemed to be a delicacy after some celebrity chef offered it up.

(from a book I read years ago - the title escapes me atm)

Hardly. The preparation of good food done well isn’t exclusive to the bourgeoisie.

Whatever about cooking on TV, at least you can see processes and results, it's cooking on radio that gets me.

Every Friday Pat Kenny Show has a chef on Gareth somebody from Marker Hotel and he lists ingredients and instructions for a recipe and Pat goes "that sounds delicious" and it's totally ridiculous.

    Aahhhh Nigella.

If she's on the telly, Mr Bubo must not be disturbed. He hangs onto her every word, almost crawling into the tv. Sitting there, fascinated by her.

He has never, ever cooked in his life.

Who's the obnoxious pr1ck that's always on the LLS, fat, loves his own voice, gone bust more times than anybody I've ever heard, over and back to London with his "organic" range

I prefer Nigella and Jamie’s early books, than watching their programmes. They both have cracking recipes! Nigel Slater’s ponderousness does my head in.
Diana Henry has great books and I have one book by Sarah Raven from which I have cooked loads of recipes.
Rachel Allen’s accent is such a turn off. I like Rick Stein but he seems to have this melancholy air about him.
Who is Mark Moriarity who has appeared out of nowhere? Why him?
And I’m afraid on tv I do not “get” Catherine Fulvio. She had her own show yesterday, no charm, so bland and boring, boring boring.
