Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Your own personal crusade

Have you, or have you ever had your own personal crusade?

Did you love( or hate) a politician so much you got too invested in their cause.

Did you get on the abortion battle?

Did you campaign against amazon because they dont treat their staff great?

What was the crusade you got very invested in?

Did you feel a bit sad when it got resolved because you had nothing to do?

I know one fella who got really invested in soccer needing video assistant referee( not that soccer cared about what he had to say). He arrived after it was announced that it was happening to gloat to a bunch of us who didnt want it. ( we werent that bothered but he annoyed us with his rabbiting about it)

He was visibly upset we didnt care all that much that he had won his crusade.

He complains about Video assistant referee now whenever it makes a decision.

Im expecting him to start an imaginary battle with us to have it banned soon enough.

I was living abroad when the abortion referendum was going. To be quite honest I was quite glad to be 10000 km away from it. Haha.

I don't have any personal crusade, I'm too busy with side projects. But one thing that does grind my gears is immigration/direct provision - we've no robust plan to handle the problems that's gonna come down the line with it. And everyone here is too afraid to talk about it, for the fear of being branded a racist.

Cadbury Creme Eggs need to be their former size, bollocks to shrinkflation.

Cadbury Creme Eggs need to be sold in packs of six not five.

Cadbury Creme Eggs need to be made from Dairy Milk chocolate made from Irish milk and the old recipe using proper coca and coca butter and love (optional) not from leftover margarine or Ex-Soviet marine diesel residue.

When I finally realised I was never going to be accepted as having anything worthy of offering by the village she-vixens who lunch, also known as the local school Parent's Group, I lost all hope of ever mounting successful personal crusades. I am a better, freer person for it.

I'm vehemently against the modern version of feminism, antifa, the BLM organisation, and all that 98 billion genders bull****.

Wouldn't call it my crusade but I do get drawn into conversations on those topics more often than I'd like.

How very sad. RIP to your poor Mam, and condolences to you.

Twelve years is a long time to be holding on to something as tragic as this. Do you think perhaps, your Mam might prefer you to get on and make a happier life for yourself. Would that be a better tribute to her memory? Rather than have the man you hold responsible as the centre of your life, for God knows how long?

If you have children of your own, what would you want for them?

    I hope you find peace.

Wouldn't consider it a crusade as such, but I'm very resistant to identity politics, virtue signallers, fourth wave feminism, and grand empty gestures like multiculturalism. I'd be against the superficial stance that a lot of people take on social issues.

I'd guess my actual crusade is more focused on personal development, and a continuous growth mindset. Avoiding the rat race side of living, and exploring alternative options so that I can experience more of foreign cultures. Knocking out my own bad habits and keeping a close eye on them not returning. Since i'm hit and miss in this area, it's very much an ongoing and forever project.

I have grown up children your age, and the most important thing to me is that they be happy. I'm sure your Mam would want the very same for you - and no doubt most people reading this would want that for you too.

Take care, and look after yourself. Happiness will come, accept it when it does.

Personal crusade against fly tippers every ditch and bog in this country if ****ed with household waste and the general knackary of the Irish throwing their waste on the ground instead of a bin.
When I am made emperor of all ireland I will commission new passenger ferries from European shipyards every year and all who are convicted of littering offences will be boarded onto it each 19th September. It will then steam to somewhere off the porcupine Bank where it will be sunk by the Irish navy. I will be be on my private yacht eating pringles and drinking club orange watching all the scummers drown like the dirty knacks they are while getting a blowie from Mary lou

    Had a few personal crusades.

Best one was organising a trade union meeting, looking for sign-ups, in a financial institution that didn't have official union representation. Saw recently that they are in talks with their union about various settlements, and felt a little glad. Took a lot of flack for that at the time.

Worst one was probably when I dug "Kony 2012" into a tree at home – still get " :D " messages about it. Will probably never live that one down, but I still think it was right.

I was involved (with others) in the planning of our company moving offices, and getting the new office kitted out. Contractors did a great job of most things, but they didn't set up the Zip tap in the kitchen. We'd paid good money for it, and as a tea drinker, it was more important to me than the outrageously expensive coffee machine. I hounded the contractors to come back and finish the job. Unmerciful hounding.

Due to my personal crusade on the matter, they eventually came back and did it. The Zip tap was finally commissioned on the 11th of March last year. A personal triumph, which I proudly communicated to the entire workforce.

The office closed due to Covid 19 on the 12th, with the entire staff working from home ever since. The fully functional Zip tap completely unused.

    ^ Great story! :)

I have a few crusades at varying stages of life.

One of my more successful ones is to rid the walks around Howth of the dreaded Ragworth. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacobaea_vulgaris

I walk around Howth a lot, it’s a fantastic place. I noticed Ragworth starting to take hold about six years ago and, as I was taught by my Dad, a part-time farmer, to pull one when ever you passed it, did so. The only way to get rid of the weed is to pull it, and it’s primary roots, out.

It’s a continuous task but I think I’ve got it under control.

I also collect the plastic bottles, coffee cups/lids, sweet wrappers and poo bags left by scum. I don’t think that battle will ever end. Some people are just so self-centred and have no consideration for anyone else or their surroundings. It really does make me sad.

Currently have one going on with my HOA community manager, who wants us all to replace our 40-year old windows with aluminum frames despite the fact that vinyl and fiberglass frames are now the industry standard and aluminum is more expensive and only one vendor in the city is willing to do them since they don't meet current California code (conveniently this person is a friend of the community manager). And there's nothing architecturally significant about our condominiums that would merit using outdated materials.

Over the last month, I've learned more about windows than I ever imagined or wanted to know. But I will not pay $5k to replace three windows using material that's not in compliance with state laws & recommendations.

Trying a “greening” plan along a little section of road using unorthodox methods.

I have had little success. I heard that supermacs snack boxes when left with lucozade bottles rot they create incredible compost for growing.

So far some *** keeps picking them up and ruining my project!
