Have an old property which has a vent pipe to the main drainage to the front garden.
It's right in the middle of the front garden which prevents the garden being used, so ideally, we'd like to remove it.
We'll be having the sewer and drainage completely replaced in the house as part of a refurbishment, which will include new soil and vent pipes within the house and a manhole placed in the front garden next to this vent pipe.

Does anyone know if this vent would then need to stay? If so, is there a better alternative that can replace it?

    Without further info

In general yes most vents can be relocated quite easily.

Dig done and find it below ground level
    Put a bend on it.
    Bring over to the fence.
Provide new vent at surface level.

Very strange to have a vent located there though.
Is it possible it's a rodding eye or something similar?

It looks to go straight down into the sewer. No valve or trap or anything.
