Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What band, where and when was it?

Mine actually is quite embarrasing, I was 11 and my cousin brought me to see Bon Jovi in the Point in 1995. I can't really remember much of it but I knew that the pyro-technics annoyed the hell outta me that night. Can't remember who was supporting them either so if ya know then please tell me.

Can't actually remember for certain which was first but it was either Queen at Slane or Metallica at the SFX in 1986.
    Was a long time ago.

I don't remember but I have been to the RATM feile, and some early Slanes 92 ish.

First gig I was meant to go to was Slane '92 to see Faith No More and Gn'R. But then I had a bloody music theory exam scheduled the same day and mummy-dearest insisted I go to that, so had to turn down the ticket I'd been offered.

First gig I ACTUALLY went to was SunStroke '95. The line-up consisted of Sponge, Mudhoney, Pennywise, White Zombie, and Soundgarden. I went to see White Zombie, followed by Soundgarden.

Zombie stole the show. Soundgarden were a major disappointment that day

yep, I heard that. I was meant to go to that but I went to see the pumpkins in the sfx that night (one of the best gigs I've ever been to)

The Bee-Gees when they last played in Ireland in the RDS, i was about 11 or so and was brought by my parents. The first concert that i actually bought tickets for myself was the Muse/Ash concert in Cork a couple of years ago.

My first was U2 with Ash for support in Belfast 98, and it was rather good ...

Pumpkins at the SFX in 95 (I think), with ASH. Great night!

Slane, with Nickleback, I'm afraid. Sounded like fun when my girlfriend dragged me up. Strangely enough I enjoyed myself, whatever you say about Nickleback they do a decent show. Hoping to scrape enough cash together to see AC/DC in Milton Keynes in June. Probably won't make it.:(

My first proper concert was Ozzfest, which turned out to be a bit of a baptismal of fire, as I got punched in the head quite a bit, especially during slayer.

Meatloaf, when I was about 8

God it was one of two gigs - which ever one was the earliest

Megadeth - Point (think it was '90)
Masscare, Immolation and Devestation - McGonagles ( cant remember when this was)

God I would have loved to have seen 'deth in their prime! I'd say that was a fairly rough gig! I saw them in the SFX in 2001 though. That was quite good but the sound was shit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,655 ✭✭✭Ph3n0m

yeah well for some reason they had the Almighty supporting them - go figure

I was a bit of a late comer (leave it.... ) on the concert scene. I was 20 when I went to my first one, the second U2 gig at Slane on September 1st 2001 :)

Have to say it was one of the best days I've had.

Decent weather, huge crowds, Ireland beating Holland (to get to the play-offs for the World Cup finals) on the giant screens, Ardal O'Hanlon singing "My Lovely Horse" on stage with Moby: "Wait, wait, I can get this bit!" Ash were good  U2 were fuppin' amazing!

Some excellent memories, my first and only concert. But this Summer I have my tickets got for:

    - Deep Purple / Lynyrd Skynyrd
    - Metallica and Linkin Park
    - Slane

Hopefully they will turn out as good as the U2 concert.

is it confirmed that Lynrd Skynyrd are playing with Deep Purple in Ireland this year?

On another note - the Misfits are playing Dublin in May (17th I think?)

Yeah it is confirmed as far as I know. My Dad says he has tickets for it anyway.

Wouldn't mind going to see the Misfits, but I can't really stand most punk fans. They really get on my nerves for some reason.

The manics in the point. On the "This is my truth tell me yours" tour, whenever that was.

The best one was either Green Day on the "Warining" tour, or Nickelback on the "Siver Side Up" tour.
They were both the last dates so they both went mental. Class.

I hear that was one of the roughest concerts ever seen in Ireland. I wish I was there. :(

My first gig was Thin Lizzy, in Slane, in 1981. I was five, and all other gigs since have been found wanting. Oh, except Ozzfest, which I heartily enjoyed once I found out Ozzy was not actually playing.

After another drunken night, my parental unita have reminded me I was at another gig prior to Thin Lizzy in Slane at 1981 (babysitter issues)

Unfortunately they can't remember what it was it may have been Richard Clayderman (all the kids say Who?!?!) but may have have been more ...er.....'Rawk' than this...does this count??

I was four, so would have been 1980?? Ha, I'm so older than all of you..!!:(

I don't really like their sorta mad Anarchy thing. It just really annoys me. I'm more of a "get on with life" type of guy. I couldn't honestly give a fuck about what goes on in the World. The only thing I really care about is myself, my family and friends. I just find that whole, hatred of conformity thing a waste of time.

I think all these 'Anarchists' would be the first to start moaning and whining if there ever was anarchy and their dole cheques stopped coming through.

Horslips in St. Mary's Hall, Portlaoise, sometime in the late 70's.
There's a gig listed here for 1st May 1976; maybe that was it, but I've a nagging feeling it was a year or two later:

Either Focus or Elton John and Ray Cooper in the National Stadium, in the late 1970's.

Can't remember which of them came first, but both were great!
