Keeping an eye on the ME website and the map.
And the map appears to be up and down like a ladies of the nights underwear tbh over the last hour.

Most of the country now appears fo be highlighted under one or other of the warnings ...

Models differing somewhat with wind predictions for tomorrow I think. ICON would come closest to Met Eireann forecast but ECM and EURO 4 atm showing a bit less strength. French models showing less again . Would side with the ECM / EURO 4.

I note Clare and Connacht are no longer covered by a rainfall warning.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,068 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Without being sensationalist I am wondering could we see a red rainfall warning for parts of the S tomorrow. Certainly looks close to it at this stage.

    What do ye think.

    From Met Eireann

Criteria for Red – Severe Weather Warnings

70mm or greater in 24 hrs
50mm or greater in 12 hrs
40mm or greater in 6 hrs

I'm near Conna, Cork right in the zone for the possibility for highest rainfall, according to my Acu-Rite weather station over 40mm of rain has fallen since the 'rain event' started 18 hours ago, and almost 29 mm since midnight. I tried attaching a screenshot but has boards stopped people attaching pics nows?

Mod Note: No you can still attach pics.

Stopped raining for near 2 hours last night in cork city, the wind picked up in the meantime before the rain started again. The rain hasn’t been heavy though, it’s a light drizzle today with some gusts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,963 ✭✭✭Chris_5339762

Absolutely disgusting today in Cork City. Went out for a walk and didn't last long. 6º with that wind and its like a winters day.

This was happening here earlier. Maybe the wind is evaporating the rain before it hits the ground. This can happen in warm weather.

Going to add this as is relevant to the system approaching.

    Day 1 Convective Outlook
    VALID 06:00 UTC Sun 14 Apr 2019 - 05:59 UTC Mon 15 Apr 2019

    ISSUED 12:33 UTC Sun 14 Apr 2019

    ISSUED BY: Dan

Significant warm advection will occur over the Celtic Sea / southern Ireland during the early hours of Monday, on the forward side of the large Atlantic upper trough. This will increase the potential for lift and mid-level instability, with forecast profiles suggesting some weak elevated instability from approximately 800mb upwards. As a result, elevated convection is expected to occur late in the night over the Celtic Sea into southern Ireland, behind the main dynamic frontal precipitation. This will be capable of producing some heavy bursts of rain, but given somewhat weak instability and rather saturated profiles lightning may be rather isolated.

That's incoming? It's been non stop heavy drizzle in cork city since yesterday around 5pm. By non stop, literally non stop bar an hour or so maybe. Constant drizzle does really add up over time

Looks like the second band is starting to show up on the radars now

Is an orange warning incoming for wind? Just seen this on Funderland facebook page.

"We have received a Status Orange warning for wind aswell as rain for tomorrow with winds gusting from 90km/h to 110km/h so Funderland will not be opening on Monday the 15th of April due to the severe forecast.
Don’t worry Funderland will be on Tuesday the 16th again from 12pm right up until Sunday the 28th of April"

They're quoting yellow level wind criteria so no. Just poorly worded, warning likely misunderstood by whoever wrote the post.

I must be getting old, but for some reason i found it amusing to see Met Eireann on RTE 1 this evening issuing an Orange warning for rain for Southern Counties.
An Orange warning for rain in Ireland
