Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Firstly, I want to say a great big thanks to all here, the place has been a mine of information since I started going through the family tree again.

    Recently I came across something on Find My Past relating to one of my relatives. It’s in the Deputy Keeper of Ireland, Index to the Act or Grant Books, and to Original Wills, of the Diocese of Dublin 1272-1858.

    The name, place and occupation of the person is in column 1, the year is in column 2 and the nature of the record is in column 3. Can anyone tell me what the abbreviations (W, M.L., and M.L.A.) in column 3 are? I’m guessing W is will, M.L. is marriage licence but the “A” in M.L.A., I haven’t a clue.

    The entry I’m looking at is from 1840 but since I can’t seem to find anything else on it, I suppose the record may have been destroyed at some stage.

    Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Yes, unfortunately, the list is all that survives.

    I presume the A stands for application.

    Thanks Pinkypinky, A for application makes sense. It's a pity that the list is all that survives, but at least now I have a date of marriage to go looking for parish records. Hopefully they will have survived!
