Laugh and snear all you want. First nice weekend and all your friends in their 400 quid a month four square bland box will be jealous as hell. Add a set of TT alloys from the scrappy and you've got depreciation proof summer loving that's perfectly usable as a daily. Oh and you'll get it for 6 or 7 hundred quid surely :-)

Would I be right in saying you could use the front end panels of that to give a MK3 Golf/Vento a Mk4 looking front?

No NCT or tax along with body damage, that's for the fixerupper thread. Only positive is that you're unlikely to pick up any penalty points for speeding :)

Would a clean example be a bad idea? I'm wary of low powered diesels and Peugeot reliability but if it worked out, good way of having a pre 08 diesel car without the high tax

xsara with that engine would be less complicated electrically.

The 1.4hdi 206's are decent too as long as ya get one with a good back axle. They feel nippy enough to for what they are.

But then, there's some savage cars, like the Jags that pop up here, beautiful pieces of engineering that are rendered useless to the normal driver because they cost €160 a month in car tax.
In other territories, with lower tax, fairer insurance and lower excise on fuel, they would be in demand, probably the RHD nature limits their exportability

And in those other territories these €2k X5, Jaguars, BMW 7-series and Mercedes S-class cars would cost thousands and thousands more to buy

They very much belong in the bangernomics thread, even though their tax is high

But I guess some people will never understand this let alone buy one...

Missed this yesterday. I know the owner and he's the nicest guy you could meet. Only saw that car the other day. Didn't pay too much attention to it but it look very honest. He also said it's running like a watch.

Was just going to say anything with more than a 2.0 would kind of defeat the idea of a bangernomic due to the massive tax you'd be paying on it!

Not at all!! it's expensive tax that makes bangernomics possible! That's how people like me can afford interesting cars :D:cool:

Of course it is! The legendary BMW straight 6 petrol.

New NCT only until 2/17 but for €399 before haggle this could make for a cheap runaround

Just shy of €906 of tax so they're more or less giving the car away.

Why anyone in their right mind would pay more for that '97 banger Carina (€650) than for that very presentable '01 Accord (€550) is beyond me.

    Holy Sheet batman....

2008 accord......... I'm speechless....2500 euros.. Ok it's not bangernomics but wow. He has an s80 for sale as well for peanuts.
Bargain of the year so far, or else a mistype?

It's cheap, but it does not belong in this thread. No way you can get it anywhere near the budget and test is out in just over 2 weeks. Still on PSV tax too.

And to top that off, it's almost certain there's something wrong with it. The car would be worth at lot more with a new (2 year) test...

For anyone who watched the clocker thread, this car is from a questionable source, but its tested until 12/16 and taxed until 3/17 for under a grand. If it checked out alright I'd take a punt

    Rolling on 13's!

Looks good though apart from damage on quarter panel.

Overly harsh on the carina? It's very clean and it's a bit of a quirky oddity being an estate. Banger carina's have bet in panels and boot lids held closed with baling twine.
1.8 tax for not much grunt puts people off them accords, I have to say I really like them though.

Honestly just different strokes for different folks. That is a great looking Accord but I would have the Carina because I like them.
