Seen a post somewhere that someone was considering jobbridge for a position that they used to get paid for.

Unbelievable the amout of crap that went on over the years.

Now that its being scrapped, how will people get experience they lacked over the past five years because jobbridge took away their chance.

It's high time that it be properly reviewed and updated to something more in line with the current jobs market. It is to be replaced with something else just jobbridge itself will be scrapped based on what I gather from Leo in the article.

Hopefully minimum wage at least.

The Fine Gael/Labour government twisted the word internship when they introduced the scheme.

That's completely different, but mandatory if you get called for it, a cushy number though, I know people who are or were on it and they have had one meeting in 3 months and do not have to sign on anymore either.

One meeting in 3 months! What the flip? What do they do the rest of the time, is there work as Well or is it just meetings? It lasts for a year....

Genuninely don't know much about this job path, but it sounds like a waste of time from what i've heard so far

Jobpath is being ran by two English recruitment firms, basically they try and find you work that suits you, not any old job, they earn commission if they find you employment, they also use JobsPlus as an incentive to any employer.

You have a few workshops in the first week of it, then you are meant to have a monthly face to face, but it all seems to vary with the two firms and location, they pay for all travel expenses as well, I know of people needing to take over an hours bus journey to get to the centre here.

Talkiing about Jobbridge now on 4fm, according to the host of the show, the only people against jobbridge are the long term unemployed forced to go on it or the lefties whatever that means, Well he really needs to do some research seeing as nobody is forced to go on Jobsbridge. The way he goes on about people on Social Welfare is sickening. He keeps going on about people not working yet his own wife doesn't work. I have no choice but to listen to him every afternoon cause its the radio at work.

There should be a jobbridge scheme in some form. There were so many prick employers that took advantage of it, but there was also a lot that did it properly. They need to be a lot more strict with whom they say yes or no to.

Any of those opinion programmes are just terrible radio. The host never remains impartial, meaning somebody is going to be set upon by him at some point, in a "who can shout the loudest" "me, because you're speaking through the phone" contest. The people speaking generally don't have two useful brain cells to smash together and their knowledge of anything, let alone the topic at hand, is generally woeful.

On the topic of JobsBridge though, it's predominantly exploited for free labour in lowly-skilled fields. Recruitment agencies should be private enterprises, not the public sector method of procuring employment - it's the government's responsibility to keep unemployment down by incentivizing hiring for companies.

Here's an idea - how about a minimum number of employees based on profit margins (over a certain amount)? That way, these horrible multinational conglomerates would have to stop replacing cashiers with automated checkouts and providing a generally crap service to customers due to absence of manpower. Just a thought.

So completely unincentivize automation and improved efficiency? Let alone destroy Dublin's financial sector. Not the best thought to be fair.

Because he's no problem with his own wife not working but then has a go at others for not working and mocking them. How unemployed people just spend all day in Bed or watch Jeremy Kyle.

There was another discussion about all social welfare payments being paid into bank accounts so people wouldn't have to collect their dole in the post office and of course he has to say it's pure laziness that people would prefer to be paid into their bank account.

It's not about laziness at all, when I had to collect my dole at the local post office it was horrible because I knew someone working in there and she was a right gossip, I use to try and work out what days she wasn't working so I could collect my dole, a few times I left the post office without collecting my money because I would have been served by her. So it's got nothing to do with laziness seeing as I asked social welfare to move me to a different post office a lot further away but they wouldn't.

He hasn't a clue about what it's like.

Not to mention that most bills are taken by direct debit. Collect dole at post office and lodge money in bank to pay bills.

Would it not be easier getting the whole amount into the bank account and withdraw money for food.

But nope, you have to find a bank which could be miles away to lodge money.

I don't know how he could claim its laziness when you do have to make an effort to get to an ATM anyway. Same as you would making an effort to collect at the post office.

He sounds like a right gobshyte.
