This car is a completely new one on me.

I remember about 15 years ago there was a rally car magazine every fortnight it had a model of each car and the magazine was mostly about the history of the car one of the weeks it was the Volvo so I remember it from that and I have the model somewhere in a box.

Pajor just posted a pic of a 1976 Honda Civic on the "oldest car" thread. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057064899&page=123

A 1977 Honda Civic will be the featured car on Wheeler Dealers on 23rd May.

I'll have to make sure I watch this. My first car was a '76 civic, similar to that picture but not in as nice a condition.

Something has changed on this season of WD and I cant quite put my finger on it. It's not quite the same.

Having seen one of the first series it is interesting how Ed has come out of his shell, he was very inhibited at first. Mike could be given the boot and few people would care, Ed carries the show now.

In the first few series though Ed looked like he'd been brought in on work experience. Mike was definitely 'the star'.

They were getting a bit of stick online about it being Americanised, but to be honest the changes are fairly minor. The car search part hasn't had Mike searching 'the inkies' or 'specialist websites'. There's no pulling up outside the workshop beeping the horn. You don't get a recap every time they come back from the ads, and so far we haven't seen Mike wandering around a factory watching someone weave a carpet or some other opportunity for him to 'get his hands dirty'.

They seem to be sticking more to the mechanicals and not bothering to mention any interior fixes, like replacing seat covers, carpets etc.

In early series when they were selling the car, occasionally someone would turn up, look at the car, say 'Sorry Mike, not for me', and walk off. Was totally pointless.

They may do like last season and cover half the series in the US and half in UK.

I've watched it for years and im probably in the minority but I actually don't mind Mike. He has a roll to play and he plays it. I don't care how much of it is staged or who buys the cars I enjoy it for what it is a car show that shows a before and after of a car and some bits in between.

Lately tho I do admit I enjoy car sos better just for the stories its nice to see them doing something for someone unfortunate.

The show definitely needs Mike. Ed has improved on screen dramatically from the early days, but I don't think he could carry the show on his own.

If you can find the episode where Mike introduces the internet as a way to find a car its a bit of laugh to watch back now. You forget just how long the show has been going.

That was on Quest on Saturday, the 1985 SAAB 900. First episode to use the Internet. "I found a website on the Internet. .." Yep, good place to start Mike. :D

Yep. While it was always scripted, it's now HEAVILY scripted. The banter between Edd and Mike is clunkier than that old Volvo.
The show always stayed true to it's low budget roots from it's afternoon car DIY show years but it's certainly changing now.
I imagine they are trying to really cement support in America to keep the series going and someone feels the old way of doing things won't translate as well across the pond.

Yeh i remember it well didn't he Park up on the middle of a field somewhere at one point to emphasize the wireless Internet and he introduced us to buying cars on the new smartphones.

One thing I'm glad they have stopped is when they test drives someone else's car and he then asks can he take a spin as if your man will say no and then at end of it he say "now our car is a million miles away from this but if we can get it to resemble this in some way I'll be very happy" or something along that line.

Ed fairly skimmed through the AC installation no mention of the condenser filling it with gas etc. With those shocks, clapped out steering bushes and the state of that idler arm it must have been a dog to drive. I wouldn't have much faith in whatever garage was doing the maintenance.

The 'garage' has a more studio feel to it than an actual working garage, I was thinking that it might be a studio set, and things seem to be more prep'd and rehearsed than say Ed stumbling on to something as he's working.

There seems to be less technical detail, as others have mentioned, which is what actually makes things interesting. It's like "we'll replace this {fade out/fade in}, there, now it's replaced.". It needs the geeky little details.

It's still good but there is something not as good about it this series. I prefer when its based in the UK for a start rather than the US but I just feel they have fiddled around with the flow of the show and its not as good as it was (though its still very enjoyable).

It was nice seeing seats getting redone and all the small bits like that they they appear to be leaving out this series.

Agree, somewhat contrived, but until top gear comes back,,,,,the real one,Jeremy and CO,WD will do,I liked Mike in deals on wheels aswell

Have to agree, it's more 'produced' - the final drive of the car had Ed sitting in the back seat as though he was the one fresh from a makeover :D

I don't mind the US thing too much as it gives a few cars we might not normally see, but that whole green thing and Mikes one episode obsession with it was very strange.

Yeh i agree its not where its based it just didnt feel like it should. Then after ten years of mike playing stupid he suddenly can wire in four gages and butcher together four pods to fit them in.

But i did enjoy the car itself.

What was all that hyper-miler rubbish about? To be fair to Ed he explained the workings of the engine very well.

Glad I'm not the only one who has noticed the show has changed this year and it's nowhere as a enjoyable as it used to be. Eds garage looks like a studio and everything is very wooden and scripted. The vibe between Ed and Mike seems to be off too. The last series they did in America was nothing like this one.

The Civic episode - not once did they clarify whether the MPG ratings were in US or UK MPG. I initially presumed it's UK but then given the setting and Americanisation of the show that it might be in US.

    Anyone any ideas?

Also - have to agree with most posters here. Not a fan of the new format. It's like it's slowly being taken over by American Chopper with the blurring of the brand of vehicles they're driving to collect the car of the week and the heavily scripted scenes - If they go any further they'll introduce 'conflict' and have the two swearing at each other over the colour of the car. I don't want this.
