Paint question.

    A little help /advice needed

    I painted a ceiling a few days ago and there is now an ugly smell in the room.
    The paint I used was the remainder of a 10 ltr can from last year.
    The ceiling needs a second coat.. ( I bought new paint )

    The question is how long does it take for the smell to go away and when can I apply the second coat with the new paint.
    I leave the windows open in that room as much as possible.

    Is it a paint smell or something else?
    Paint smell will go away after a couple of days. Leaving the window opens help.


    Cutting an onion in half and leaving it in the room is supposed to help too. I'm not sure of the science but it's worth a shot.

    The smell is from the paint for sure but a an ugly bad smell ...
    Should I let that smell clear up before putting on the second coat...

    Don't see how it could make any odds when you put another coat on.

    If it's just a strong smell of paint all you can do is keep the room well ventilated and the smell will disappear over the next few days.
    I painted my bedroom last summer and I think I must have been too liberal with the paint as I couldn't sleep in it for nearly a week because of the fumes.

    24 hours between coats will be plenty, smell or no smell.

    emulsion paint goes off and gets an infection
    thats what the smell is
    it will fade
