    They all share a similar amount of proof of their existence.

    Maybe not Old Nick himself, with horns and a tail, etc: (although I confess to a certain affection for old Uncle Screwtape.)

    But yes, I definitely do believe in evil: (just open the newspapers!)
    And I wouldn't underestimate the seductive power of it, either.

    I do believe in the hell created by our lord and saviour, the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

    Why is it always referred to as "the" devil as opposed to god or "a" god?

    Is the devil the same across all religions.

    I think he is just misunderstood.

    I believe it's formally God/Satan and The Devil/The Deity. In Christianity, anyway.

    When I was in primary school one of the teachers told the class that the devil is everywhere something bad happens. He said if you fall in the yard at breaktime and cut your knee that's the devil's work. He must have leaved a very bleak, depressing life!!!
