I remember when he was on Today Fm and presenting the Rose of Tralee and he could do no wrong. Now he is on Rte radio and television and he gets awful criticism. This is despite him not changing at all in my opinion.

Do people not like him because he is now earning a lot of money?

Can't speak for others, but I never liked him, always came across as pompous.

I think hate is a pretty strong word.

I think a lot of people don't like his interviewing style especially on tv. In my view, he doesn't come across well, conversations don't seem to flow and he can be very offensive.

I've found him to be very opinionated and he that really bugs me.

He was grand when he was wrestling a panda teddy.

    That's not a euphemism.

Typical Irish begrudgery is a lot of it id say. People were bitchin on here when he was on today fm. Those same bitches are obviously gonna transfer over to his RTE show and continue bitching

I think the Ray of 10 years ago would think the presenter today is sh1t

He is painful to watch, the Pam Anderson interview was the worst ice ever seen, and I remember Gay interviewing bishop caseys girlfriend !!

Irish begrudgery? He's ****e, that's all. How tall are you. I have kids. I cycle. You should eat porridge.

He was grand at the light hearted stuff then he was younger. He's just tired now.

He is a very poor performer compared to the likes of the chat show hosts / interviewers on BBC. I never tune in to RTE much nowadays. Even Dragons den and First dates are poor copies.
God why do we have to pay the ************ RTE licence fee?

    God I hate this.

Really dont think its 'typically Irish' to envy or begrudge someone, its international. I'm sure the Irish are no worse than any other nation.

Hear it all the time and it does piss me off. Nonsense.

+1. Gay was disgraceful, he was really hostile to her, because she dared come out and reveal the Bishop had a child.

Don't begrudge him the big bucks, it's rte so will be wasted on something anyway..

It's because of the abomination of a "chat show" he was given and is completely unsuited for.
Relations at the firm I believe.

The man is completely lacking in basic levels of emotional intelligence, self-awareness and perhaps most importantly of all, just plain like-ability.

Mediocrity is not just tolerated in much of Irish life, it's oddly rewarded for whatever fcuking reason.

He was fine working with young people.
They had spent years training the previous guy on the Saturday show, what's his face, and he had come good.
D'arcy cannot do adult interviews. Don't know why.
In contrast, RT seems to be light but is actually very able when a difficult subject has to be handled.

I never forgave him for taking over from Ian Demsey on The Den

begrudgery is not the same as disliking someone

I've not liked him for a few years and hate is far too strong a word.

I don't know, he was good in the beginning but then he became predictable. You could nearly guess the topics that were going to be raised and you could guess his response. The other presenters/staff brought as much to the show as he did. If you didn't run, cycle or have a baby, you could tune out for a lot of his show.

Maybe his product-cycle is long past its best?

One thing that particularly turned me off him was when he did a road-safety advert for the RSA: the heavy-hitting part of the ad was Ray saying something like "Would you ever cop on you fu*king eedjit" - as if Ray D'Arcy swearing is supposed to shock people into driving more carefully...Obviously, this version was on radio after the watershed.

Brendan O'Connor, he was ok. Everyone hates D'arcy on tv.

Well I would not use the word hate, but its a key timeslot wasted. I simply do not watch it.
As some one said, he doesn't seem to emotionally connect.
He doesn't seem to have a broad interest in many aspects of life.
One needs the key functions of a journalist and he hasn't those, the inquiring mind.
