    Hey Boardsies,

Some friends and I were talking yesterday about whether or not you would accept a knighthood from the queen if offered. I personally wouldn't but I would be interested in boardsies opinions.
I don't like titles in general and I especially don't like people that insist on being addressed as such.
For example if I meet John Murphy and he is an older gentleman I will call him Mr. Murphy until he says otherwise just out of respect. However if I meet the same person and happen to call him John and he says "it's Mr. Murphy" I will persist with calling him John as I deem him to now be a bellend :)

Back to the original question would you accept a knighthood?

Accept a knighthood from what queen? ?

I know this is the www but I'm irish and living in Ireland I don't need any queen to tell me well done on how I choose to live my life.

Sure, but then it helps that I'm from the UK. (The ultimate "West Brit", is I.)

Unless you became a British citizen, you wouldn't get a title.

I assume if they are willing to give me a knighthood (presumably for services to lovemaking..... To myself) then they are willing to give me citizenship

Sure I would. Get off your high horses, it doesn't mean I'd be a slave to the demon empire.

    Maybe, maybe not.

Bono and Bob Geldof both have knighthoods, but as they are not British citizens they are not "sirs" despite being erroneously called so.

Terry Wogan was originally given an honorary knighthood, but subsequently took dual citizenship so became "Sir" Terry Wogan.

Na, titles are for boxers and bookshelves. Going to Buck Palace for tae and a scone wouldn't bother me at all though.

    Is there a cash prize?

    Most certainly.
I would be very proud and delighted to accept an honour that is such a long part of our history.

In fairness, Wogan was as British as they come in his own head.

    Really?

Terry was entitled to the honor anyway because he was born before 1949, ( when the Republic of Ireland came into being).

If I get to play with the royal Corgis, yes.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

They're only Royal because the Queen is fond of them. Good job Charlie's never taking the throne, there'd be Royal Tampons flying about the place.

Being offered a Knighthood and refusing it elevates you to whole 'nother level of coolness - if you have that luxury. Among the refuseniks are David Bowie, Rudyard Kipling, Vanessa Redgrave, TE Lawrence, Danny Boyle, Michael Faraday, George Bernard Shaw, Aldous Huxley, Henry Moore, and Peter Higgs (of Higgs Boson fame).

I think Keith Richards ground up his medal and mainlined it in protest

No, if we want to view people as being of equal worth, and with the same opportunities in life, I don't think knighthoods and other awards like this are good.
I am sure you get treated better in British society if you are a 'Sir' or a 'Dame' than some ordinary subject who might have done great things in their life but has never come to the attention of a wider society.
