    Hi,

Looking at moving out of the parents house.

Found a place in Rathmines and the landlord is looking for 3 months deposit.

Can they do this? Is there a limit on what they can ask for?

    Thanks

3 months will become the norm.

Too many deadbeat tenants disappear owing thousands.

martyc82- 3 months is far from unusual from a private renter- and up to 6 months to secure corporate residential lettings.

Property is scarce- and tenants are actively offering larger and larger deposits to try and distinguish themselves from other tenants (and minimise risks for landlords).

Yes- in short- there is absolutely nothing untoward with a landlord seeking 3 months rent as a deposit. If you're not happy to pay it- don't- go look at other properties instead.
