Just to back track a small bit I think we need to not loose sight of the fact that its asking less than a grand either and it is a bit of a cliche but I'd tend to be somewhat more sceptical of the one thats polished up to the 9's if we are €1,000 bangers.

I'd agree and that car looks right anyway with it's original wheels etc. I would be more wary of a very shiny one. That said, on viewing I would be expecting it to be clean.

As stupid cars go this takes all the awards. Test worth talking about but look at that mileage. Like new :-)

Low mileage as I suspect the owner was too embarrassed to drive it.

Now this is something I can get behind, 2002 520i (with appropriate plate) & 13 months test for a euro under a grand. Ad is scarce on details but it has passed a test recently, if there isn't too much wrong with it then its a bargain
Is that not the going rate for a manual petrol SE with no cruise control or anything? I have often seen 520i Msports with more spec for around the same or a little more.

This belongs to a friend of mine and I can say 100% it's minter than it looks in the ad.

It's been cared for like a baby.

Yeah but an easy fix if you have a welder and some basic tools. Id take it, fix it and use it for my winter beater.
Unfortunately insuring it will be the death of perfectly good motor :(

I always liked those Laguna's, certainly nicer looking and more reliable than the following car.

Scrap the car, claim back the unused road tax, money made?

It's been replaced with a facelift phase 2 laguna. I've been at him to keep the one above for his collection. He's got a mint 25 an even fresher 19 and a project Espace.

As a child I loved the 4, my dad had a 12 and I was unfortunate enough to own a Scenic 2 that was the bane of my existence from day one.
But I still like the original Laguna, lovely car, and the 19 was a lovely looker too, so few left on the roads

I take your point but it fits the criteria. If I hadn't been upfront about putting it through the test early there'd have been no problem

How much do you get for a scrap car these days ? It's been ages since I've done it but I'd imagine it's not a lot.

Sporty(ish) astra for less than a grand:

Are we taking bets on the mileage?

I'll get the ball rolling at north of 250k

It is indeed John. All service items and parts from filters to oil are original Renault items. A proper Renault head.

I'd put a weeks wages on it.

Not that it's a particularly bad thing. Old TDis are fairly reliable

I was in an TDi Octavia taxi in England a few months ago, she was on 349,000 miles! Dash display was lit up like a Christmas tree, but she was still hauling!

a touch over 750,000 miles on a local tdi skoda superb down my way. It was a hackney cab for most of its life, now the taxi driver's son drives it don't think it's needed anything major in its life either.

Facelift Avensis' are nice looking cars in my opinion. Full years test on this and some tax, miles on the high side though. Not a bad, respectable looking family car for the money though. I reckon if I was looking for something bigger at the minute I'd go for the likes of one of these. You don't see many around I find, and not seldom are they clean

It sure is. The eyesore that followed the next model in 2009 is truly awful, typical priests car.
