Liverpool fans coined the phrase "Mickey Mouse Cup",if they win it then it will suddenly be the best thing ever.
City fans are thin on the ground in Ireland (and the Etihad:p ) so we don't have to suffer listening to them.

Hard to believe hes 18 by the look of him. Physically so well developed for his age. Delighted to see him come on today.

Was thinking after the game today, that the current upturn is arguably similar to the few games run we had around the same stage last season - in both cases it is arguable that LVG has lucked into a successful formation, selection, style - through injuries to other players.

Last year it was the loss of a few strikers meaning Rooney was moved up front and the midfield three of Carrick, Fellaini and Herrera with Young and Mata in the wide positions.

This season the loss of Carrick and Schweinsteiger from the central midfield positions, and Rooney from the number 10 position means we have more pace and industry from Lingard and Memphis on the wings with Mata central or roaming and looking to release the pace wide and up front.

Varela has added an attacking threat down the right that we had lacked - offering similar to what Shaw was offering on the left at the start of the season.

It will certainly be interesting to see if the style of play stays (never mind certain players) as Valencia, Young, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Darmian regain fitness.

As things stand I would bring Martial back in for Rashford and look to keep the rest of the selections the exact same (fitness depending) - meaning Rooney is benched.

Man City have to cope with extra time before travelling to Anfield in a few days.

Personally I felt you could have made an argument for him to start at CB (pace, power, strength) instead of carrick with carrick playing midfield instead. Obviously the selections worked out.

If we had lost today, that's what I would've said.

    But everything is shiny now.

Walcott had only 17 touches of the ball today and made 6 accurate passes. To think I was worried about his pace facing up to Blind and Carrick.

This is such a poor game. City should have had it knit up long ago.

The lesser of 2 evils won the cup.

Do we have to cheer for Liverpool midweek though?

Tbh I didn't really care if Liverpool won, especially after our win, can't say I'm overly delighted to see City win another trophy.

But match thread was comedy gold again

I know now why try avoid them as much as can although had 3-4 posts myself today I'll admit

Would have preferred Liverpool to win over City. Despise them.

Spurs and Leicester losing as well would have been better Shirley?

Mata has been immense the last few weeks. Subtly controlling everything in a free role. Amazing what sticking willing runners around him at 10 will do. If he can rediscover his goal scoring touch......

At least when city win there's only about 10 supporters in the whole country to avoid, where as liverpool supporters come out of the woodwork everywhere;)

In these dark days of United not winning anything, Liverpool schadenfreude keeps me going.

Thankfully it's an unlimited resource. :pac:

Nah, we're not catching them now so anything that pulls them away from Arsenal is all good with me.

    City is our target now.
