I have a set of these,

and have the front one placed below the stem, its not as obvious that it is there, it might last a bit longer
it gives adequate light for me, but I just use lights to let people know I am there, I am rarely out when its really dark.

Is there a reason you don't remove them from your bike when you go in to work or is it difficult to leave them in work?

Where's your commute, might define what lights would be recommended. Is it all urban, urban and rural or just rural?

I have a set of Knog blinders that charge via usb and I find them great. First set of lights I've had that I've got value for money out of, still going strong after 3 years of regular use.

The best lights by far are available on eBay from China. I use the "CREE XML2" and it has the max luminescent intensity for your hard earned euro. GCN did a comparison of the best lights, you can see their video on YouTube search for "GCN best bike lights".
They cost about 30 delivered, and have a mains recargable battery that mounts to the crossbar
There's 3 light settings and a flash mode. I get 2 hours on lowest setting and this is a savage light...its as good as headlights on the car so be careful not to dazzle other road users. I've been dazzled while driving by badly mounted lights like these.

Personally I would have thought them better for MTBing ando not for road due to lack of shaping, maybe they are better nowadays. They are great value and you can add on batteries to get longer life out of them
