Problem with new pc build and 4k TV

I just bought some parts and built a new pc. I've bought a relatively cheap 4k TV and I want to watch some true 4k content on it.

When I set the display settings on the pc to 4096 x 2160 there is lag on the screen but the tv does detect the input as 4096 x 2160, however when I launch the game dead space the highest resolution it offers me is 1080, also the TV detects the game a lower res.

The card I got is an amd r9 380, so I tried setting gpu scaling. This actually removed the lag but the max res in display settings is 3840 x 2160. The TV detects this signal as 1080 though, however when I launch dead space the max res I can set is 3840 x 2160.

Any clues? I'm hoping it's not a problem with the TV.

You said the max res Dead Space can run at is 3840 x 2160 - this is 4K resolution.

1080P is 1920x1080.

With regards the lag, does the TV support 60hz at 4k? Some TV's will only do 30hz at 4k, which makes them bad for consoles/PC, it won't feel smooth.

Check the TV manual. Is there a HDMI2.0 port? If so use that one.

IF you're still having problem, whatever cable you're using might only support 30hz at 4k either.

Few factors to look into here.

Games like Dead Space will be grand, but new titles will struggle badly on an R9 380, it's not remotely powerful enough to drive 4K.

Got a bit further, turns out no AMD cards have HDMI 2.0 so at 4096 x 2160 the highest rate available is 30hz unless you get some sort of adapter for the display port(the TV doesn't have a display port).

It's actually fine as I'll prolly just game at 1080p and movies at 4k.

Apparently the TV supports 3840 x 2160 at 60hz and so should the card but its only offering it at 30hz but I'll do some more playing around.

AMD cards only have HDMI 1.4 , so it's 4k @30hz or 1080p @ 60hz

There are official AMD adapters that go from display port to HDMI 2 , that would give 4k @ 60hz -
